Development and standardization of parental support inventory for self- care skills (PSISS)

The purpose of this study is to develop an inventory for determining, what level issupported self-care skills of 36 -72 months old children by their parent. For this purpose,validity and reliability analysis of " Parental Support Inventory for Self-Care Skills weremade, descriptive statistics values were calculated and the percentage values of z and Tscores were determined. 228 mothers and 228 fathers with children between 36 -72months for a total of 456 parents have joined in the study group. Inventory is 5 -pointLikert structure and consists 62 items. Self-care skills in inventory are evaluated with thefive basic dimensions which are "Cleanliness and Property" (19 items), "Nutrition " (14items), " Dressing" (16 items), " Personal Security" (8 items), and "Rest" (5 items).Parental support explanatory level of inventory for self-care skills was found as 49.52percent, criterion validity was .89 and Cronbach's alpha coefficient of internalconsistency was found as .96 .
