OPINIONS OF GIFTED STUDENTS ON THE HISTORY OF NUMBERS VIRTUAL MUSEUM APPLICATION
Özet
This study aims to examine the opinions of gifted students about their virtual museum experiences on the history of numbers. The study was conducted with the case study method, one of the qualitative research designs, and was carried out with 12 gifted students enrolled in a Science and Arts Centre in the Central Anatolia Region in the academic year 2024-2025. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analysed using content analysis. The results of the study were analysed under four themes: “Purpose of Museums”, “Virtual Museum Experience”, “Mathematics Museum Experience” and “Different Number Systems”. The results show that students find virtual museums informative and interesting, but they do not offer the sensory and social interaction that physical museums provide. The results also showed that the application was fun for the students. Although the concept of a mathematics museum initially surprised students, exploring the historical development of number systems enhanced their learning. Comparing number systems from different civilizations broadened their mathematical perspectives. The study highlights virtual museums as effective alternative learning environments for mathematics education. However, enriching them with more interactive content and guided applications is essential. Greater integration of virtual museums into education and the development of new applications to support learning experiences are recommended.
