ArticleAçık Erişim

Özet

The aim of this study is to develop a valid, reliable, and useful scale to determine the anxiety levels of parents who have at least one child attending primary school, middle school, high school, or university. The cross-sectional survey method, one of the quantitative research designs, was used in the study. The participants of the study were determined using the convenience sampling method. Participants were required to be parents and volunteers to participate in the study. A total of 527 parents participated in the study. In order to ensure the construct validity of the scale, first, Exploratory Factor Analysis was conducted with the responses of 299 parents, and then, Second Level Confirmatory Factor Analysis was conducted with the responses of 228 parents. In this study, which aims to determine the mathematics anxiety levels of parents, a valid, reliable and useful 5-point Likert-type 22-item Mathematics Anxiety Scale for Parents consisting of "Mathematics Background", "Daily Life", "Mathematics Support", and "Child from the Parent's Perspective" sub-factors were developed. In addition to the sub-factors of mathematics anxiety felt by parents about their past educational experiences, mathematics anxiety felt when they encounter a situation related to mathematics in daily life, mathematics anxiety experienced while helping their children in mathematics, and anxiety about their children's mathematics lessons, it can also be used to determine general mathematics anxiety levels.
