CHILDHOOD AT THE BIRTH OF CINEMA: EARLY CINEMA AS A VISUAL THRESHOLD

ArticleAçık Erişim

Özet

This article discusses the early cinema period around its relationship with childhood. The period known as the birth of cinema or early world cinema between the years 1895-1920 is in a strong interaction with both child images and child audiences. On the other hand, this period can be considered as an important threshold within the historical context of childhood. The internationally acclaimed children's star series have won the admiration of not only child audiences but also adult audiences. The fact that movies featuring child stars appeal to both children and adults means that the categories of "childhood" and "adulthood" are getting closer. This is based on the common viewing experience of children and adults in the same movie theater. As a result, "adult" features may appear in child stars, while many adult stars have "childlike" features.
