An Example of Jurassic Fold Structures: Formation of Yoğurtdağı (Kemah- Erzincan) Fold Structure, General Characteristics and Fossil Presence

ArticleAçık Erişim

Özet

The study area is located in the Eastern Anatolia Region, within the borders of Erzincan province, Kemah district, Gölkaynak village. The fold structure developed on the Munzur mountain range is geographically located between 38°51 ́-3903 east meridians and 3933-39°39 ́ northern parallels. The geological structure of Yoğurtdağı and its surroundings, which is the focus of the study, was named as Yoğurtdağı Limestone Member within the Kemah Formation and is in the form of marine limestones with abundant clastic, high fossil content and generally a layered structure. Considering its general structure, it is seen that Yoghurtdagi has an anticline-synclinal structure. However, the tectonic activities in the area and the ongoing erosion tempo since the second half of the Mesozoic era have created a significant deformation on the structure. In the region where Yoğurtdağı is located, the dominant relief is a folded structure.
