Relationship Between Nutritional Habits and Serum Lipid Levels: A Cross-Sectional Study

ArticleAçık Erişim

Özet

Objective: Balanced and proper nutrition plays an important role\rin the prevention of chronic and common health problems, such\ras obesity, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and cancers. In this\rstudy, we aimed to evaluate the relationship between nutritional\rhabits and lipid levels.\rMaterials and Methods: The research was carried out cross-\rsectionally. Patients aged 18 years or older who applied to the\rcardiology outpatient clinic were considered in this study. The\rfollowing test values were collected: total blood cholesterol, LDL,\rHDL, and TG. Results of 616 patients were analyzed.\rResults: A total of 60.2% of the participants were male (n = 371)\rand 39.8% (n = 245) were female. It was observed that there was\ra positive correlation between oil and margarine consumption\r(P < .001), and a negative correlation between oil and animal oil\rconsumption (P < .001 and P = .041). There was a positive corre-\rlation between sheep or lamb meat consumption and triglycer-\ride levels (P = .001).\rConclusion: It was observed that the consumption of mutton\rand lamb meat had only negative effects on triglycerides in lipids.\rThere is a need for more extensive research in relation to nutri-\rtional habits and disease risks.
