This study presents the phytochemical and biological evaluation of the essential oil from Sideritis argyrea P.H.Davis, an endemic species from Türkiye. The oil, obtained by hydrodistillation of flowering aerial parts, had a yield of 0.02% (w/v) and was analyzed by GC–MS and GC–FID. Twenty-nine volatile constituents were identified, mainly comprising monoterpene hydrocarbons and oxygenated sesquiterpenes, with β-pinene (21.7%) and α-pinene (12.1%) as the predominant compounds. In vitro assays revealed moderate acetylcholinesterase inhibition (14.32%) and weak α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibition, indicating limited anticholinesterase and antidiabetic activities. Antioxidant assays (DPPH•, ABTS•+) showed low radical scavenging capacity, consistent with the oil’s low phenolic content. Molecular docking and ADME analyses suggested that cubebol, 9-geranyl-p-cymene, and τ-muurolol exhibited the most favorable enzyme interactions and pharmacokinetic properties among the identified compounds. Although the observed bioactivities were modest, these findings provide valuable preliminary data on the chemical profile and biological properties of S. argyrea essential oil.

Chemical composition of the essential oil of teucrium multicaule montbret et aucher ex bentham from Turkey

    Polat, T.; Özer, H.; Öztürk, E.; Çakir, A.; Kandemir, A.; Demir, Y.

The oil obtained by hydrodistillation from the aerial parts of Teucrium multicaule Montbret Et Aucher Ex Bentham from Turkey was analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Fifty-six compounds were characterized, representing 90.0% of the total components detected. The major constituents were identified as germacrene D (13.2%), caryophyllene oxide (10.9%), spathulenol (6.6%), β-caryophyllene (5.6%), and (6Z,10Z)-pseudo phytol (4.1%).

Antimicrobial and antioxidant activity and chemical composition of the essential oil of tanacetum macrophyllum (Waldst. et Kit.) Schultz. Bip.

    Javidnia, K.; Gholami, M.; Firuzi, O.; Özer, H.; Kandemir, A.

The essential oil of Tanacetum macrophyllum growing wild in Turkey was obtained by hydrodistillation, and antimicrobial activity of the essential oil was tested against six bacteria and two yeasts including Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger by disc diffusion method. Further the oil of this plant was analyzed by GC and GC/MS technique. Best effect of the oil was against pseudomonas earuginosa. Twenty-eight components, representing 95.6% of the total oil, were identified. The main component of the oil was β-eudesmol (89.5%). The antioxidant activity of the essential oil was measured by the ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assay.
