    Yildirim, Zeynep; Bozcu, Ebru

Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between health literacy and attitudes toward cancer screening and to raise awareness on this issue. Methods: This study was descriptive and correlational in design. The study was conducted with 630 adults aged 30–70 years living in a province located in eastern Türkiye. After excluding incomplete questionnaires, the analyses were conducted with 624 participants. The research data were collected through face-to-face interviews between April 2023 and June 2024 after obtaining the necessary legal permissions. A Descriptive Information Form, the Türkiye Health Literacy Scale (THLS-32), and the Attitudes Toward Cancer Screening Scale were used as data collection tools. The data were analyzed using SPSS 23.0 software; descriptive statistics, correlation analyses, and regression analyses were performed to examine the relationships between variables. Results: The mean health literacy score of the participants was 31.84±10.74, while the mean attitude score toward cancer screening was 89.69±16.82. The scores of the Türkiye Health Literacy Scale (THLS-32) and the Attitudes Toward Cancer Screening Scale differed significantly according to employment status, place of residence, educational level, presence of chronic disease, and previous cancer screening status (P<.05). In addition, a moderate positive and statistically significant relationship was identified between health literacy and attitudes toward cancer screening (r=.450, P<.001). Conclusion: The findings of the study showed that as health literacy levels increased, attitudes toward cancer screening became more positive. This result indicates that health literacy plays an important role in the development of positive attitudes toward cancer screening.

Aksu Aslan, Gonca; Hacihasanoğlu Aşilar, Rabia

Objective: This study investigated the relationship between successful aging and life satisfaction in older adults presented to primary care. Methods: This descriptive and correlational study was conducted between January 2019 and May 2019. The sample consisted of 379 older adults (aged 65 and over) admitted to three family health centers (FHMs) in a provincial center in eastern Türkiye. Data were collected using a descriptive questionnaire, the Successful Aging Scale (SAS), and the Life Satisfaction Index (LSI). Results: Participants had a mean age of 70.87±5.61 years. They had mean SAS and LSI scores of 53.54±8.43 and 10.85±4.14, respectively. More than a quarter of the participants (38%) had high life satisfaction. There was a weak positive correlation between the SAS total and subscale scores and the mean LSI score (P<.001). Conclusion: Older adults had a good perception of successful aging. However, they had a moderate perception of life satisfaction. It was determined that as perceptions of life satisfaction increased, perceptions of successful aging also increased. Therefore, FHM nurses should counsel and support older adults to ensure successful aging and life satisfaction.

Analysis of Cesarean Section Rates Using the Robson Classification System in a Training and Research Hospital in Turkey; [Türkiye’deki Bir Üniversite Hastanesinde Robson Sınıflandırılması Sistemini Kullanarak Sezeryan Oranlarının Analizi]

    Dinç, Kemal; Dinç, İltifat Hümeyra

Objective: In our study, we aimed to evaluate cesarean section rates, causes, and changes over the years in an education and research hospital in eastern Turkey using the Robson 10-Group Classification System. Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted that included all women who gave birth in a training and research hospital in eastern Turkey between January 2018 and December 2022. Digital data of all deliveries were extracted from the hospital information system, and all groups were compared using the obstetric parameters in the Robson 10-Group Classification System. Results: During a total of 5 years, 4265 (51.47%) of 8287 pregnant women who applied to the hospital for delivery were delivered by cesarean section. Most of the pregnant women admitted to the hospital are multiparous (group 3 + group 4 = 35.9%). Cesarean section was performed in 99.88% of the pregnant women who had a previous cesarean section (group 5). Women in groups 1, 2, and 5 are the largest contributors to the overall cesarean section rate in our hospital. Conclusions: In our study, cesarean section rates should be reduced in women in the first, sec-ond, and fifth groups. In this context, physicians should increase vaginal deliveries after cesarean section and avoid unnecessary labor inductions. In terms of midwives and nurses, education and training should be planned and implemented for pregnant women/couples within the scope of prenatal care services consultancy service. A pregnant education program should be established in which the advantages and disadvantages of cesarean and vaginal delivery are explained.
