Kircaer, Ozan; Kanberoglu, Gulsah Saydan; Coldur, Fatih

A potentiometric poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) membrane benzydamine (BZD)-selective sensor based on potassium tetrakis(4-chlorophenyl)borate (KTpClPB) as an electroactive material was fabricated with a broad linear range and ultra-low detection limit in a straightforward, cost-effective, and efficient manner. As an outcome of the membrane optimization research, it was found that the membrane composition that exhibited the best potentiometric performance metrics among the studied membrane compositions was 32.0% (w/w) PVC, 67.0% (w/w) o-NPOE (o-nitrophenyloctyl ether), and 1.0% (w/w) KTpClPB. The sensor displayed a linear response to BZD within the concentration range of 1.0 × 10−8 to 1.0 × 10−2 mol L-1, achieving a detection limit of 5.0 × 10− 9 mol L-1 and a sensitivity of 56.6 mV decade−1. The electrodes possessed a rapid response time of about 10 s. The sensor’s analytical capability was demonstrated by accurately quantifying the benzydamine content in multiple pharmaceuticals with benzydamine as the active component, yielding high recovery values.

Removal of organic pollutants with green and efficient methods is an important goal for researchers studying environmental pollution. Photo-Fenton systems with composite catalysts are a promising alternative for efficient water treatment. In this study, Prussian blue modified magnetite decorated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MW-CNT) nanocomposite was prepared and for the first time applied to the Photo-Fenton degradation of phenol. The catalyst was prepared by rapid hydrothermal method. XPS, SEM–EDX, XRD, FTIR, UV–Vis–NIR, EIS techniques were used for characterizing the functionalities and morphology of the catalyst. The effect of initial H2O2 concentration, catalyst mass, and initial pH of the phenol solution was investigated. Experimental results showed that 100 mg dm−3 of phenol could be degraded completely in 15 min at pH 7. This study describes the synthesis of the new Photo-Fenton catalyst for highly effective phenol treatment.

Fabrication of a novel potentiometric sensor based on graphite/carbon nanotube composite paste modified by lead(II)sulfide for efficient determination of copper(II) ions

Ogul, Gulhan; Coldur, Fatih; Cubuk, Osman

A simple fabrication route for an all-solid-state carbon paste Cu(II)-selective potentiometric sensor on the basis of composite sensing layer consisting of PbS microparticles, graphite (G), multi-walled carbon nanotube, and paraffin oil has been propounded. Optimization studies for sensing composite layer signified that the composite contained 10 mg PbS, 10 mg MWCNT, 60 mg G, and 20 mg PO exposed the most promising potentiometric performance properties. The sensor displayed a stable and selective linear response to Cu(II) ions in the concentration range of 1.0 × 10−6–1.0 × 10−2 M (R2 = 0.9992) with an average potential change of 30.2 mV/decade. Detection limit, response time, and life-span of the sensor were determined as 5.0 × 10−7 M, 15 s, and 3 weeks, respectively. The fabricated sensor was successfully used in practical applications, serving as an indicator electrode to determine the end-point of Cu(II) titrations and to measure Cu(II) content in Cu(II)-spiked tap water samples. Development of MOF-based PVC membrane potentiometric sensor for determination of imipramine hydrochloride

Subasi, Yaver; Kanberoglu, Gulsah S.; Coldur, Fatih; Cubuk, Osman; Zahmakiran, Mehmet

Imipramine hydrochloride (IMIP) is a tricyclic antidepressant utilized in the treatment of depression and chronic pain in some certain cases together with pain medication. The side effects of anxiety, insomnia, crying attacks, personality change and tachycardia are seen in imipramine overdose; therefore, determination of imipramine is an important issue. In this study, a novel potentiometric PVC membrane ion-selective sensor (ISE) was developed for monitoring of IMIP. MIL-53(Al) metal–organic framework was utilized for the first time as an electroactive material in the construction of imipramine-selective PVC membrane sensor. The sensor membrane consisting of 3.0% MIL-53(Al), 64.0% dibutylphthalate (DBP), 32.0% polyvinylchloride (PVC) and 1.0% potassium tetrakis(4-chlorophenyl)borate (KTPClPB) exhibited the most satisfied potentiometric performance characteristics. The sensor displayed a linear response for imipramine hydrochloride in the concentration range of 1.0 × 10−7 M-1.0 × 10−1 M with a slope of 57.7 mV/decade and detection limit of 5.0 × 10−8 M. The operational pH range of the sensor was determined as 3.7–8.5. The sensor showed highly reproducible and stable potentiometric responses with the response time of less than 5 s. The IMIP content of a pharmaceutical used in the treatment of depression was successfully determined with the proposed imipramine-selective sensor. Additionally, the analytical applicability of the sensor in real biological samples was demonstrated by performing imipramine determinations in spiked human blood serum and urine samples. Synthesis, electrochemical and spectroscopic properties of ferrocene-based compounds

Taşkor Önel, Gülce; Özgül Karaaslan, Emine; Ösken, İpek; Saygılı, Nezire

Ferrocene derivatives have been synthesized by the Suzuki cross-coupling reaction of ferroceneboronic acid with various aryl/heteroaryl halides. The reactions yield ferrocenyl derivatives with overall yields varying between 35 and 98%. The derivatives have been characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, IR, HRMS and elemental analysis. The structure–property relationship has been investigated based on UV/Vis spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. Cyclic voltammetry studies revealed when the side group of ferrocenes were an electron-donating, lower oxidation was displayed. On the other hand, the strong electron-withdrawing group had a higher oxidation potential. Graphical abstract: [Figure not available: see fulltext.]

Molecular docking and investigation of 4-(benzylideneamino)- and 4-(benzylamino)-benzenesulfonamide derivatives as potent AChE inhibitors

The discovery of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors is important for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), known as the most common type of dementia. Due to the side effects of commonly used acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, studies for the detection of new inhibitors are increasing day by day. In this study, we investigated the effects of some sulfonamide derivatives (S1–S4 and S1i–S4i) on AChE enzymes. The best pose of the active compounds to understand the mechanism of possible inhibition in interaction of enzyme-sulfonamide derivative were performed docking studies after in vitro experimental results. ADME-related physicochemical and pharmacokinetic properties of the synthesized 4-aminobenzenesulfonamide derivatives were the compatibility with Lipinski’s rule of five. We found that the synthesized derivatives of sulfonamides show potential inhibitor properties for AChE with Ki constants in the range of 2.54 ± 0.22–299.60 ± 8.73 µM. The derivatives of sulfonamides exhibited different inhibition type. We determined that the derivatives (S1, S1i, S3, and S3i) showed a competitive inhibition effect, whereas others (S2, S2i, S4, and S4i) showed mixed-type inhibition. As a result, the sulfonamide derivatives can be used as an alternative acetylcholinesterase inhibitor due to this effect. Inhibitors with fewer side effects, are thought to be important in the treatment of AD.
