Analyzing the corrosion and tribocorrosion performances of monolayer TiO2 and bilayer TiO2-SiO2 coatings at different SBF temperatures

    Acar, M.T.

In this study, monolayer TiO2 coating was formed by the anodization method and bilayer TiO2-SiO2 coating was formed by the spin-coating method on commercially pure titanium (Cp-Ti) samples. The aim of this work compare the effects of monolayer and bilayer coatings at 37 °C and 60 °C in simulated body fluid (SBF) on the corrosion and tribocorrosion behaviors of Cp-Ti material. XRD and SEM were used for structural characterization of the coatings. Afterward, the adhesion strength of monolayer and bilayer coatings was investigated. The bilayer film began to separate from the Cp-Ti surface at higher forces, which was associated with energy dissipation between the layers, increased load-carrying capacity, and increased surface hardness. The best resistance was achieved from the bilayer film in tribocorrosion experiment at both 37 °C and 60 °C SBF temperatures; the result was attributed to higher surface hardness and film thickness. Consequently, untreated, monolayer, and bilayer Cp-Ti samples were tested for adhesion strength, corrosion, and tribocorrosion and bilayer samples exhibited the highest performance.

Zinc oxide (ZnO) is a versatile compound or metal oxide with a wide range of applications across various industries such as electronics, optoelectronics, and gas sensors, etc. A simple hydrothermal method was used to synthesize ZnO flower-like structures in this study. The synthesized ZnO structures were analyzed by x-ray diffractometer (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). We used ZnO structures as an interfacial layer for a Schottky-type silicon-based photodetector. While Au and Al metals were employed as metallic and ohmic contacts, respectively, p-Si was utilized as a semiconductor and substrate. Thus, Au/ZnO/p-Si sandwich was successfully fabricated and tested by current-voltage (I-V) measurements under dark and various light power illumination densities from 10 mW cm−2 to 150 mW cm−2 as well as the various wavelengths in the case of same power. The I-V characteristics were used to determine the diode and photodetection parameters. The fabricated heterostructure exhibited 77.51 mA W−1 responsivity, 1.30 × 1010 Jones specific detectivity, and 26.33% external quantum efficiency (EQE) values.

The electronic and optical properties of MB12 (M = Zr, Hf, Y, Lu) dodecaboride compounds

    Korozlu, N.; Surucu, G.

We have presented the results of ab initio investigations on the structural, electronic and optical properties of MB12 (M = Zr, Hf, Y, Lu) dodecaboride compounds. Especially, the lattice parameters, bond distances, bulk modulus, electronic band structure, density of state, optical properties and their related quantities such as dielectric constants, refraction index and energy-loss function are calculated, and it is shown that the compounds have a metallic character and a large static dielectric constant. Our structural results are in agreement with the available experimental and other theoretical data.

Measurements of molecular scattering differential cross sections of some Ba compounds

    Içelli, Orhan; Erzeneoǧlu, Salih

Molecular scattering differential cross sections have been measured for Ba(ClO4)23H2O, Ba(ClO3) 2H2O, BaCl22H2O, Ba(NO 3)2, BaCl2 and BaO compounds at seven angles ranging from 60° to 120° at 10° intervals. Obtained values change in respect of effective atomic numbers for some Ba compounds at 60° and 120°. The obtained results have been compared with non-relativistic and relativistic theoretical values.
