Objectives: We aimed to reveal the change of urological emergencies during the COVID-19 pandemic compared to the same\rperiod of the previous year.\rMethods: The number of admissions to the emergency department (ED), admissions to the urology outpatient clinic, emergency\rurological consultations, and urological and emergency urological surgeries during the periods April-November-2019 and April-\rNovember-2020 were recorded. The data of the COVID-19 period were compared with the previous year.\rResults: While the number of admissions to the urological outpatient clinic was 160,447 during the COVID period, it was 351,809\rduring the non-COVID period. The number of admissions to the ED decreased from 3.2 million to 2.4. The number of admissions to\rthe urology outpatient clinic significantly decreased by 54% during the pandemic (p=0.001). Percutaneous cystostomy performed\rdue to acute urinary obstruction decreased by 27.96%, double J stent, nephrostomy decreased by 16.61%, and ureterorenoscopy\rdecreased by 12.26%. Urogenital trauma also decreased. On the contrary, surgical procedures performed due to penile fracture,\rgross hematuria, Fournier gangrene, and testicular torsion increased.\rConclusion: During the COVID-19 pandemic, a significant decrease was observed in non-COVID patients’ admissions to the emer-\rgency and urology department, and in urologic surgeries.\r

Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between breast feeding and postnatal depression in mothers in the early postpartum period. Material and Method: This descriptive and correlational study was conducted at the maternity hospital in the city center of Erzurum between 1 February 2013 and 30 April 2013. The data were collected using the Introductory Information Form, LATCH Breastfeeding Assessment Tool and Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale. One way analysis of variance, t test, Kruskal-Wallis, Mann-Whitney U and correlation analysis were used to assess the data. Results: It was determined that there was a statistically significant difference between the age, educational level and pregnancy number of mothers and LATCH mean scores (p<0.05), and a statistically significant difference between the EPDS mean scores and income level, pregnancy number and pregnancy intention of mothers (p<0.05). According to these results, no relationship was determined between LATCH and EPDS mean scores. Conclusion: As a result of the study, it was determined that mothers had a moderate-level success of breast feeding, one fourth of them were under risk in terms of depression and there was no relationship between the depression and breast feeding

Objective: In this study, we aimed to evaluate the relationship between pre-eclampsia and thyroid profile. Material and Method: In this case control study, serum concentrations of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), free triiodothyronine (FT3) and free thyroxine (FT4) were prospectively measured in fifty preeclamptic patients compared with thirty normotensive pregnant controls before labor. Both groups were composed of various pregnant females in the third trimester. Two groups were also compared with regard to obstetrical outcomes. Results: Levels of TSH, FT3 and FT4 showed no significant difference between the pre-eclamptic group and normotensive controls. Regarding obstetrical outcomes; the difference was found to be significant for gestational age when studying labor and birth-weight between two groups. Preeclamptic patients delivered at earlier gestation and had lower infant birth-weights compared with normotensive controls. Also, we did not find any statistically significant correlation between thyroid function and birth-weight in both groups. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that thyroid function does not change in pre-eclampsia. Therefore, the identification of thyroid hormone in pregnancy can not help obstetricians to predict the occurrence of pre-eclampsia.
