Özet

Background: This study aimed to examine how nursing training provided to parents of asthmatic children affects the child’s quality of life by increasing their awareness of home environment arrangements. Methods: This study, which was conducted using a single-group pre-test post-test design, was conducted in a Training and Study Hospital in a province of Turkey. The study sample consisted of 35 asthmatic children and their parents who were hospitalized in the pediatrics polyclinic and inpatient ward during the pandemic period between March and July 2021. The data were collected with the “Asthmatic Child Information Form,” “Pediatric Ashtma Quality of Life Questionnaire,” and “Home Design Awareness Scale in Children with Asthma.” Frequency, percentage, mean, SD, paired samples t-test, Wilcoxon signed-rank test, independent t-test, and Mann–Whitney U-test were used to evaluate the data. Results: The asthmatic children included in the study had sub-dimension and total score averages of the Pediatric Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire and the published Home Design Awareness Scale in Children with Asthma as pre-test-post-test, and the post-test score averages of all sub-terms after the training (P < .05). Conclusion: It has been observed that the parents’ home design awareness increases, and the children’s quality of life increases with the nursing training given to the parents of asthmatic children to protect them from indoor factors that trigger asthma attacks in their children. © 2026 Galenos Publishing House.
