THE INTERRELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE FIRST MOVEMENT OF BEETHOVEN’S MOONLIGHT SONATA AND THE THIRD MOVEMENT OF SCHUMANN’S OP.17 FANTASY IN D MAJOR IN CONTEXT OF INTERTEXTUALITY

Özet

Intertextuality, which emerged as a literary theory in the 1960s, has entered musicology since the 1980s. Studies focusing on the boundaries, transformation and permeability of works of art emphasize that the musical text, which consists of musical symbols, can also be transformed into other texts, renewed in other texts, alluded and recreated as another text, just like in other texts. In this article, in the context of intertextuality in music, third movement of Robert Schumann’s C major Fantasy Op. 17 and the first movement of Op.27 No.2, also known as Moonlight Sonata, written by Beethoven in 1801, are taken into account and various musical parameters that cause allusion in C major Fantasy are scrutinized.
