Miracle in Imam Ghâzali and David Hume in the Context of Causality

Özet

The debate about whether God intervenes in the universe is a natural consequence of the debate about God's existence. How is God's relationship with the universe? While God's intervention in the universe was considered possible in traditional periods, it has been determined that there are some laws in the functioning of the universe based on scientific data in modern periods, and whether God can interfere with the functioning of these laws has begun to be discussed in a different way. According to Ghazali, Allah can intervene in the universe whenever He wishes. He exhibits an approach that this is a requirement of his creativity and dominance. On the other hand, David Hume, who has a strict deterministic understanding of the functioning of the universe, states that God cannot interfere with the functioning of the universe even if he wants to, and that there can be no order in the event of such a situation. The purpose of this article is to examine whether every miracle is an intervention in the universe, whether God's intervention in the universe can be understood as whether he did something wrong while creating the universe or if something did not go well as intended, and whether this is a deficiency for God. Recently, in the world of Western thought, a belief in God, who created the universe and was forced to step aside due to the laws prevailing in the universe, has prevailed. In this case, it either causes the denial of God or causes Him to become a figurative being.
