BIOCAPITALISM AND BODY BROKERS: PROFESSIONALISATION OF BODY TRADE TODAY
Özet
This study discusses the relationship between neoliberalization and biopolitics based on two concepts: biocapitalism and body brokers. Biocapitalism refers to the integration of new biopolitical strategies that have emerged with the development of the biotechnology industry with the transformation of biological life into investment source in line with new neoliberal market targets. In this context, biocapitalism is the articulation of new neoliberalism and new biopolitics. Biocapitalism transforms the body into an investment source and commodifies it, in line with the demands of the industries and institutions that need biological materials. Today, the spread of organs, tissues and cadaver trade and its transformation into a global black market are the result of biocapitalism. Body brokers, who provides body, tissue and cadaver to the buyers of the body trade, is a new form of professionalisation that expresses all the economic tendencies of biocapitalism.
