Investigation of Heavy Metal Accumulation in (Pinus nigra Arnold) Collected from Different Regions of Ankara

    Osma, Etem; Türk, Hasan Can

In this study, heavy metal concentrations (Al, Cr, Cd, Cu, Fe, Zn, Mn, Pb, Ni) were detected in the samples of bark, leaf and soil belonging to P. nigra which were collected from industry, inner city, roadside and control area in Ankara. The aim of this study is to determine the level of heavy metal pollution in Ankara that capital our country. After plant and soil samples were preprocessed, the analyses of heavy metals were performed on ICP-OES. Data obtained from the parts of the plant and the soil was statistically evaluated on SPSS and it is detected that there are significant differences between the regions. It is also observed that there are differences between washed and unwashed leaves in terms of heavy metal concentrations. When the data obtained were examined, it was determined that the concentration of heavy metals in plant barks, especially in the industrial zone, was high. Consequently, it was concluded that P. nigra’s which are widely distributed in cities, may be biomonitors in detecting heavy metal pollution.
