Yildiran Sogurtlupinar, Sevda; Inanç, Merve; Keçe, Yusuf Murat; Tarhan, Leyla; Sogutmaz Ozdemir, Bahar; Sahin, Fikrettin; Turan, Metin; Günes, Adem

Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) are increasingly applied in sustainable agriculture to enhance plant growth, improve yield, and induce tolerance to stress condition while reducing chemical inputs. Tuff, a porous volcanic material with high water-holding and cation exchange capacity, was used as a carrier to inoculate and deliver PGPR to the plant root zone. This two-year greenhouse study evaluated the effects of PGPR-inoculated tuff (T1) compared with non-inoculated tuff (T0, control) on the growth, physiological performance, antioxidant enzyme activities, and biochemical profiles of 'K & imath;rik' wheat. Large tuff (9 & times; 14 & times; 11 mm) were inoculated with approximately 4.8 & times; 1010 cfu/g PGPR and applied to the root zone of each plant. PGPR application increased grain yield by 20.43% and significantly improved chlorophyll content, stomatal conductance, membrane permeability, and photosynthetic rate. Antioxidant enzymes, including CAT, SOD, and POD, showed increases of 11.43, 14.83, and 10.71%, respectively. Levels of IAA (13.59%), GA (7%), and SA (9.27%) were elevated, whereas ABA decreased by 16.67%. Amino acid and organic acid contents were generally enhanced, along with significant increases in nutrient element concentrations, most notably P (18.49%), Cu (10.61%), and Fe (9.99%); in contrast, Na and B concentrations decreased by 5 and 3.48%, respectively. These findings indicate that PGPR-inoculated tuff can improve nutrient availability and growth and physiological performance in wheat, offering a low-cost, scalable biological input to complement conventional fertilization in sustainable wheat production. Further field studies comparing this approach with standard chemical fertilization are needed to confirm its practical applicability and support broader adoption.

Effect of heat treatment conditions on the microstructure, surface roughness, dimensional accuracy, and geometric tolerances of inconel 718 alloy produced by selective laser melting

Cemaloglu, Fulya; Özlü, Bares; Demir, Halil

In this study, the effects of different heat treatment conditions applied to Inconel 718 alloy produced by the Selective Laser Melting (SLM) method on microstructure, surface roughness, dimensional accuracy, and geometric tolerances were experimentally investigated. Five specimens with nominal dimensions of 22 & times;22 & times;55 mm were produced; one was kept as the as-built sample, while the others were subjected to heat treatment under the conditions of 980-1.5h, 800-1h, 800-4h, and 800-32h. Microstructural analyses indicated that the heat treatments reduced the melt pool traces and resulted in a more homogeneous structure. Surface roughness measurements showed that the average roughness value of the as-built sample was 12.946 & micro;m, whereas roughness decreased under all heat treatment conditions. The lowest value was measured as 10,065 & micro;m after aging at 800-32h, corresponding to an improvement of 22,25 %. In terms of dimensional accuracy, the lowest deviations were obtained in the as-built specimen. In contrast, under the 800-32h condition, maximum deviations of up to 0.86% were detected in certain dimensions. Parallelism tolerances increased after long-term aging, whereas the lowest deviation in perpendicularity tolerance was obtained under the 980-1.5h condition. The findings indicate that while long-term aging improves surface quality, it may adversely affect certain dimensional and geometric characteristics.

    Akkus, Hakan; Ozkan, Engin

In this study, we define the k-Copper Fibonacci and k-Copper Lucas sequences, and the first few terms of these sequences are given. Then we obtain properties such as special generating functions, Binet formulas, etc. Also, we present special relations between these sequences and the roots of their characteristic equations. We obtain the relationship between the ratio of the biggest to the smallest of two consecutive terms of these sequences. In addition, we give important relations among the positive and negative index terms of these sequences, and the sum of the squares of two consecutive terms is related to these sequences. We calculate the significant identities of these sequences. Besides, we apply Catalan transformations of these sequences and obtain the first few terms. We present some features of these Catalan transformations, such as generating functions. Furthermore, we apply the Hankel transform to the Catalan transform of these sequences.

The concept of Muridism in studies of Caucasian history

Karataş, Ali İhsan; Kaya, Muhammed Talha; Hasanov, Nariman

The Russian Empire sought to control the Caucasus from the eighteenth century as part of its expansionist policy in Asia and Europe. However, this effort resulted in significant human, economic and temporal losses, delaying Russia's expansion. Scholars have since examined the prolonged war and heavy casualties in the region. The Caucasian struggle for independence has generally been portrayed in the literature as the Muridism movement or a mystical-fanatical ideology, a characterization that has persisted to the present day. However, this approach overshadows the military and political achievements of the Caucasians. Moreover, this widely accepted yet scientifically unsubstantiated notion has led to research being built on a weak and unfounded basis. This study examines primary sources chronologically and comparatively using document and content analysis. As a result, no evidence was found to support the claim that a radical or fanatical movement emerged during the nineteenth-century Caucasian struggle against the Russian Empire.

Optimization of MXene/CNT free-standing composite electrodes for enhanced electrochemical performance in symmetric supercapacitors

Yesilbag, Yasar Ozkan; Salih, Ahmed Jalal Salih

The integration of one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) materials into three-dimensional (3D) structures shows great potential for improving energy storage. This study investigates the optimization of interlayer spacing in MXene structures by incorporating conductive materials. Free-standing Ti3C2Tx MXene and carbon nanotube (CNT) composite electrodes were fabricated via vacuum filtration, with CNT weight ratios of 10 %, 20 %, and 30 %. The MXene/CNT10 (MX1) composite exhibited superior electrochemical performance, with a specific capacitance of 254 F g⁻1 and remarkable durability, retaining 101.2 % of its initial capacitance after 10,000 cycles. A symmetric supercapacitor (SSC) using the MX1 electrode achieved a stable voltage window of 0–1.2 V, a specific capacitance of 70.1 F g⁻¹, and retained 85 % of its capacitance after 5000 cycles. With an energy density of 14.1 Wh kg⁻1 and a power density of 13.9 kW kg⁻1, MXene/CNT composites demonstrate significant potential for advanced energy storage applications.

Impact of PGPR-enriched tuff on biochemical characteristics, antioxidant enzyme activities and hormonal responses in walnut saplings

Yıldıran Söğürtlüpınar, Sevda; İnanç, Merve; Keçe, Yusuf Murat; Tarhan Çelebi, Leyla; Soğutmaz Özdemir, Bahar; Şahin, Fikrettin; Turan, Metin; Güneş, Adem

Walnut (Juglans regia L.) is one of the most economically important tree nuts worldwide due to its nutritional and health-promoting properties. The use of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) in agriculture is increasing attention as a sustainable alternative to intensively used chemical inputs; however, their application to walnut seedlings and their effects on changes in plant hormones, antioxidant enzyme activities and biochemical metabolites are not yet fully understood. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effects of PGPR-enriched tuff on the hormonal responses and metabolite profiles of walnut seedlings. The experiment was conducted for two consecutive years in a greenhouse using the ‘Şebin’ cultivar. Medium-sized tuff pieces (8 × 8 × 11 mm) were inoculated with approximately 2.9 × 109 colony-forming units (cfu) g−1 PGPR applied directly to the root zone of each seedling. The results of the experiment showed that the application of tuff enriched with PGPR significantly improved physiological and biochemical properties compared to the control group. Significant increases were recorded in chlorophyll content, stomatal conductance, membrane permeability, and photosynthetic rate. Antioxidant enzyme activities and concentrations of key plant hormones including indole acetic acid (IAA), gibberellic acid (GA), and salicylic acid (SA) reached their maximum levels under PGPR treatment, while abscisic acid (ABA) showed the highest accumulation in the control. Amino acid and organic acid contents of walnut leaves generally increased with PGPR application. Most nutrient element concentrations were enhanced. PGPR-inoculated tuff demonstrated strong potential as a sustainable soil amendment to improve walnut seedling nutrient uptake, physiological performance, and stress tolerance.

Generalized Parastichy Fibonacci Numbers and Their Applications

Akkuş, Hakan; Shannon, Anthony G.; Özkan, Engin

In this study, we define the Parastichy Fibonacci and Parastichy Fibonacci-Lucas numbers. Also, we find basic properties of these numbers, such as characteristic equations and properties. Then we give the Binet formulas, special generating function, and special summation formulas. We associate the terms of the Parastichy Fibonacci and Parastichy Fibonacci-Lucas numbers with matrices. In addition, we calculate the Simson formulas of these numbers. Moreover, we examine the relationships among these numbers. We relate Parastichy Fibonacci numbers with special number sequences such as Lucas numbers. Furthermore, we obtain important correlations between Parastichy Fibonacci and Parastichy Fibonacci-Lucas numbers. We explore the use of generalized Parastichy Fibonacci numbers in the context of hyperbolic quaternions. For these hyperbolic quaternions, we derive various properties, including generating functions and summation formulas. Finally, we establish a relationship between the terms of the Parastichy Fibonacci and Parastichy Fibonacci-Lucas numbers and their associated hyperbolic quaternion values.

Machinability Assessment of Forged, SLM and Heat-Treated Inconel 718 Under Dry and MQL Conditions Using Machine Learning Models

Cemaloğlu, Fulya; Özlü, Barış; Demir, Halil; Kara, Fuat

In this study, the milling performance of Inconel 718 alloys produced by forging (WP1), Inconel 718 produced by Selective Laser Melting (SLM) (WP2), and Inconel 718 (WP3) subjected to heat treatment after SLM, under different cooling/lubrication conditions, was evaluated using experimental and artificial intelligence-based approaches. Microstructural analysis showed a homogeneous fine-grained structure in WP1, while WP2 exhibited dendritic features and porosity. Heat treatment improved the microstructural homogeneity of WP3. The hardness values of WP1, WP2, and WP3 were 457 Hv, 303.33 Hv, and 391 Hv, respectively. Milling experiments yielded cutting forces of 336.5–1185.9 N, surface roughness values of 0.22–1.39 µm, and cutting temperatures of 168–658 °C. Compared with dry machining, MQL reduced average cutting force and cutting temperature by 15.5% and 18.65%, respectively, while improving tool wear and surface integrity. Machine learning models including LR, DTR, SVR, and GPR were developed to predict machining responses. GPR provided the highest prediction accuracy, achieving 98.72% for cutting force and 98.99% for cutting temperature. The results demonstrate that manufacturing route and cooling strategy significantly affect the machinability of Inconel 718 and that machine learning techniques can effectively support machining process optimization.

Chemical Composition and Biological Activities of Propolis From Eastern Anatolia: Antioxidant, Enzyme Inhibitory, and Antimicrobial Activities

Fırat, Mehmet Çağlar; Akşit, Zeynep; Şimşek, Samed; Altın, Sevgi; Yıldız, İlyas; Akşit, Hüseyin

Propolis is recognized for its biological activities; however, its chemical composition varies according to environmental conditions, which presents challenges for quality standardization and biological evaluation. Although propolis has been widely investigated, information regarding variation among samples collected from geographically close locations within the same region is limited. Therefore, this study investigated whether propolis samples obtained from different locations within Erzincan Province exhibit differences in chemical composition and biological activities and evaluated the relationship between environmental conditions and propolis characteristics. Eleven propolis samples collected from Erzincan, Türkiye, were analyzed for phenolic composition, antioxidant capacity, antimicrobial activity, acetylcholinesterase (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities. Twenty-eight compounds were identified, with gallic acid, protocatechuic acid, chlorogenic acid, hydroxybenzaldehyde, caffeic acid, and vanillin detected as major constituents. AChE inhibitory activity varied between 1.28 and 6.44 µg/mL, while BChE inhibitory activity varied between 1.85 and 9.66 µg/mL. All samples exhibited antibacterial activity. Total phenolic and flavonoid contents were 141.70–255.04 mg GAE/g extract and 30.48–93.81 mg QE/g extract, respectively. The KMH sample showed the antioxidant activity. The results demonstrated variation in phytochemical composition and biological activities among propolis samples collected within the same province, indicating associations between flora, environmental conditions, propolis quality, and bioactivity.
