In this study, class A pan coefficient (KPan) values were simulated via five machine learning models, namely the ANN, the AAN-REPTree, the ANN-SMO SVM, the ANN-Linear regression, and the ANN-Bagging model, by using daily meteorological data of the meteorological station of Ouled Ben Abdelkader region, which has semi-arid microclimate in the northwest region of Algeria. To determine the optimal combination of inputs, a variety of input-target pairs were tested by a variety of machine learning models, resulting in seven possible input scenarios: Tmean, RHmin, RHmax and Wind Speed were found to be the best input combinations. The results of models were analyzed (i.e., correlation coefficient (R), mean absolute error (MAE), root mean squared error (RMSE), relative absolute error (RAE), root relative squared error (RRSE)) to find their accuracy. As the best optimal condition, four input variables were introduced for the models ANN, ANN-REPTree, ANN-SMO SVM, ANN-Linear regression, and ANN-Bagging, with R = 0.9941 and 0.984, MAE = 0.0018 and 0.0037, RMSE = 0.0068 and 0.0016, RAE = 3.8863 and 7.6858, and RRSE = 10.9301 and 18.0686 in the training and testing phases, respectively. This hybrid model (ANN-Bagging) has demonstrated its utility in a scenario where there is a strong connection among the variables which includes KPan, and its feasibility to display the model in a feasible state.

Agriculture is a crucial factor in improving the country economic growth. With the massive impact of environment variation, supplying and measuring the quality of water for irrigation usage is a crucial task for water resource management authority. The demand for good quality water for both drinking and irrigation uses is increasing day by day in recent years. The main aim of the present study is to identify the suitability of surface water for irrigation uses in the Man River basin of Maharashtra, India using advanced techniques. These region first time is used such kind of models i.e. boosted tree, AdaBoost, decision tree, extremely randomized tree model, and feed-forward neural network (deep learning) models, and these models are better to analyze and understand the groundwater quality datasets in the saline area. The prediction results are evaluated with the use of different performance metrics, mean absolute error (MAE), mean absolute relative error (MARE), Nash Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE), root mean squared error (RMSE), and coefficient of determination (R2). The study identified that the boosted tree model is more appropriate for the SAR prediction value, this model with high accuracy compared with other models. The result of this study shows that boosted tree model is very suitable for prediction of SAR and also provided the accurate information for agriculture purposes. In the first scenario, the boosted tree model shows lower value of mean squared error (MSE) of 0.26 and higher R2 of 0.88, the second scenario shows lower value of MSE of 0.11 and higher value of R2 of 0.91. Overall, in both the scenarios, the result of boosted tree model is more favorable for SAR% prediction. This work shows that machine and deep learning models can improve and better prediction of the groundwater quality in the study area. It is essential to understand the water quality and improve the sustainable agriculture system and development. These advanced modeling methods help to stakeholders make better water management and irrigation decisions, boosting agricultural sustainability and productivity.

Various critical applications, spanning from watershed management to agricultural planning and ecological sustainability, hinge upon the accurate prediction of reference evapotranspiration (ETo). In this context, our study aimed to enhance the accuracy of ETo prediction models by combining a variety of signal decomposition techniques with an Artificial Bee Colony (ABC)–artificial neural network (ANN) (codename: ABC–ANN). To this end, historical (1979–2014) daily climate variables, including maximum temperature, minimum temperature, mean temperature, wind speed, relative humidity, solar radiation, and precipitation from four arid and semi-arid regions in Egypt: Al-Qalyubiyah, Cairo, Damietta, and Port Said, were used. Six techniques, namely, Empirical Mode Decomposition, Variational Mode Decomposition, Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition, Local Mean Decomposition, Complete Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition with Adaptive Noise, and Empirical Wavelet Transform were used to evaluate signal decomposition efficiency in ETo prediction. Our results showed that the highest ETo prediction accuracy was obtained with ABC-ANN (Train R2: 0.990 and Test R2: 0.989), (Train R2: 0.986 and Test R2: 0.986), (Train R2: 0.991 and Test R2: 0.989) and (Train R2: 0.988 and Test R2: 0.987) for Al-Qalyubiyah, Cairo, Damietta, and Port Said, respectively. The impressive results of our hybrid model attest to its importance as a powerful tool for tackling the problems associated with ETo prediction.
