Comparing Personal Risk Communication with Generic Information on Breast Cancer Screening Attendance: A Randomized Controlled Trial

    Ustun, Cihat; Gursoy, Ersan

Objective: This study sought to discern the differential impacts of communicating individualized breast cancer risk versus disseminating generic breast cancer information on women's proclivity towards breast cancer screenings. Method: A structured experimental design was used, including 300 female volunteers aged between 40-69, who had not previously been diagnosed with breast cancer, in Erzincan. Data collection entailed a face-to-face administration of a 22-item questionnaire complemented by the ASSISTS scale. Participants were randomized into two conditions: one receiving a standardized briefing on breast cancer screening modalities, and the other being apprised of their lifetime risk of breast cancer development based on the modified Gail model. Results: Post-intervention, 55.8% (n=72) of the risk-informed cohort and 40.5% (n=41) of the generic information cohort expressed a willingness to undergo screening (p=0.022). Notably, the group informed of their personalized risk exhibited aAmore pronounced uptick in requests for breast self-examination, clinical breast examination, and mammography screening compared to their counterparts. Conclusions: The communication of personalized breast cancer risk proves to be aAmore efficacious and time-efficient strategy than generic information dissemination in bolstering screening participation rates.

Issin, Gizem; Gamsizkan, Mehmet; Tural, Ersin; Cagatay, Diren Vuslat; Cimen, Ferda Keskin

Objective: This study aimed to determine the duration of hospital admission of the panic diagnosed patients in surgical pathology, examine the factors that may influence hospital admission time, and identify the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on hospital admission time. Methods: The panic diagnosed patients in surgical pathology between January 2018 and January 2021 were determined. These patients' demographic, clinical, and critical diagnostic form data were documented. The duration of hospital admission of patients during and pre-COVID-19 pandemic period was determined. Results: There were 65 panic diagnosed cases in surgical pathology, of which one patient had leukocytoclastic vasculitis, 10 patients had uterine contents without villi or trophoblasts, and 54 patients had unexpected malignancy. The mean time of admission to the hospital of verbally informed and not verbally informed cases were five days and 156 days, respectively, in the pre-COVID-19 group. All cases in the COVID-19 pandemic group were verbally informed about critical diagnosis and the mean time of admission to the hospital was 18 days (1-40). Admission times were on mean about 13 days longer in verbally informed cases in the COVID-19 pandemic group compared to verbally informed cases in the pre-COVID-19 group. Conclusions: We determined a dramatic decrease in the number of panic diagnosed cases in surgical pathology during the COVID-19 pandemic and patients who are verbally informed admitted to the hospital in a shorter time. The integration of panic diagnosis notification systems to health applications and primary responsible family physician's systems may be useful for preventing unwanted delays.

Peker, Kemal; Yilmaz, Ismayil; Demiryilmaz, Ismail; Isik, Arda; Sayar, Ilyas; Gursul, Cebrail; Cankaya, Murat; Coban, Taha Abdulkadir

Objective: Ozone has been advised as a metabolic excitative in cell, immunomodulatory agent and antioxidant enzyme actuator. The present study was performed to designate the profit of ozone therapy on the burn wound healing in the rats. Methods: 40 adult Wistar type rats divided into 4 groups: a control group (burn not created and topical and systemic agents not used), a burn group (burn created but only saline given), a burn+silver sulfadiazine group (silver sulfadiazine was applied for 21 days), a burn+ozone/oxygen mixture group (ozone/oxygen mixture was applied for 21 days). After anesthetizing, second-degree burn (2 cm2 areas) was done on the dorsal of the animals byaluminum plate in boiling hot water (100 degrees C for 15 seconds) and other groups except control group were treated topically, based on the time scheduled. Tissue samples were harvested on day 7st and 21st after burn injury. Biochemical and histological analyzes were performed in tissue and blood samples. The results were assessed with appropriate statistical tests and given as Means +/- SD. Results: The histopathologic damage level was significantly different in all groups. Fibrosis and inflamation levels decreased in ozone treatment and silver sulphadiazine groups compared to burn+normal saline group on the 21 days according to 7 days. In the ozone treatment group, Glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase activities were significantly higher than the silver sulfadiazine treated group. But glutathione reductase enzyme activities were lover in the ozone treated group and hydroxyproline concentration decreased in ozone group compared to burn+normal saline group on 7 and 21 days. Conclusions: Ozone has a detractive effect in the development of inflamation, fibrosis, and granulation via decreasing tissue damage and increasing the antioxidant enzyme activity on burn wound healing.

Akturan, Selcuk; Gümüs, Burak; Özer, Omer; Balandiz, Huseyin; Erenler, Ali Kemal

Objective: Death statistics are useful in determining the trends and differences in death in society, priorities in biomedical research, public health programs, decisions on the distribution of funding resources, and aspects of epidemiological studies. The death statistics obtained from different sources in regular intervals, and share them with the health care administrators and health professions is a frequently used method in developed countries. In this study, we aimed to provide an important resource, including mortality rates and causes, that can be used by health care administrators and health professions. Methods: In our study, data from differents sources and time intervals were used, which were shared by Turkey Statistical Institute (TUIK) 's. From the TUIK database, the causes of death, death rates and population data between 2009-2016 were collected, analysed and classified Results: Death rate tended to increase in both genders for each year between 2009 and 2016 in Turkey. The most common cause of death was circulatory system diseases. The majority of deaths occurred in winter months. When regional distribution of diseases was investigated, it was determined that death related to circulatory and respiratory systems were higher in Western and Eastern parts of the Karadeniz region. The circulatory system disorders, malignities and respiratory system disorders were the most common causes of death in both genders. Conclusion: Determining of death rates and causes of death help reduce the health expenditures and create more rational policies for the health care services and health budget.
