Objective: Fibromyalgia syndrome is a chronic rheumatic disease, the primary symptom of which is widespread body pain, accompanied by other symptoms, and infections play a role in its etiopathogenesis. Our study aims to investigate the symptoms between the patient group diagnosed with fibromyalgia syndrome after being infected with coronavirus disease 2019 and the fibromyalgia syndrome group without infection. Methods: In this study, 35 patients diagnosed with fibromyalgia after having coronavirus disease 2019 and 35 patients diagnosed with non-coronavirus disease 2019 fibromyalgia according to the 2016 American College of Rheumatology diagnostic criteria, a total of 70 patients, were evaluated. Widespread Pain Index, Symptom Severity Scale, Fibromyalgia Symptom Scale, Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire, Beck Anxiety Inventory, Jenkins Sleep Scale, Fatigue Severity Scale, and Visual Analogue Scale were used. Results: In the study, sociodemographic findings such as age, weight, height, body mass index, marital status, education, Widespread Pain Index, Symptom Severity Scale, Fibromyalgia Symptom Scale, and fibromyalgia syndrome diagnostic crite- ria were high and similar in both groups. Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire, Beck Anxiety Inventory, Jenkins Sleep Scale, Fatigue Severity Scale, and Visual Analogue Scale-pain scores, which were increased in both groups, were statistically higher and more significant in the post-coronavirus disease 2019 fibromyalgia syndrome group than in the fibromyalgia syndrome group (P < .001). The scores of fibromyalgia effect, anxiety and sleep disorders, fatigue, and pain severity were higher in fibro- myalgia patients after coronavirus disease 2019. Conclusions: In this study, we revealed that fibromyalgia symptoms might develop after coronavirus disease 2019 and, unlike idiopathic fibromyalgia, symptoms of anxiety and sleep disturbance, fatigue, and pain may be more severe. Thus, we showed that coronavirus disease 2019 could negatively affect general health more than idiopathic fibromyalgia syndrome.

Be Brave and Cool, Be Far from Low Back Pain:Kinesiophobia and Pain Catastrophizing Behaviour CanCause Disability in Chronic Non-specific Low Back PainPatients Like the Other Maladaptive Psyschosocial Factors

    Ekinci, Bilge; Dal, Çağatay Nusret

Objective: The aim of the study is to research the effect of kinesiophobia and pain catastrophizing behavior on disability related to low back pain among patients with chronic non-specific low back pain. Material and Methods: In this prospective and cross-sectional study, in which the data of 54 patients in total were recorded with 3 stages of patient recruitment; the data of kinesiophobia (with Tampa Kinesiophobia Scale ), catastrophe (with Pain Catastrophizing Scale) and low back pain-related disability level (with Oswestry Disability Index) with sociodemographic and anthropometric data were analyzed. By means of statistical analysis; continuous variables were expressed with mean value±standard deviation and median value (minimum-maximum) and categorical variables were expressed in terms of numbers and percentages. The Pearson and Spearman correlation coefficient was used to evaluate the correlation of the variables. The correlation coefficient of 0.00-0.30 was considered as negligible, 0.30-0.50 as low, 0.50-0.70 as medium, 0.70-0.90 as high, and 0.90-1.00 as very high. Results: A moderate positive correlation was identified between kinesiophobia and catastrophizing with disability level related to low back pain. There was a low-degree negative correlation between disability level related to low back pain with education and income level. Conclusions: Psychosocial pathologies like kinesiophobia and pain catastrophizing behavior may affect disability related to low back pain in a negative sense. In addition to the pathoanatomic/biomedical approach, treatment should include a psychosocial-based assessment and if psychosocial pathology is identified, treatments like pain education and cognitive behavioral therapy should be added to present treatments.

Polimorfizimlerin tamamı (SOD1 IVS3+35 A>C; SOD2 c.*3409T>A; c.*441A>G; MTHFR p.Ala222Val (c.677C>T) ve PAI-1-844 G>A polimeraz zincir reaksiyonu ve kesim parçası uzunluk polimorfizm (PCR– RFLP) yöntemi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. MTHFR677C> T polimorfizminde, “T” editif modelde CC’ye göre CT (OR: 5.69 Cl: 2.4-13.4 p<0.001) ve “T” baskın modelde CC’ye göre TC + TT (OR: 5.69 Cl: 2.4-13.4 p<0.001) genotiplerine sahip olmanın LDH riskini yaklaşık 6 kat artırdığı, “C” resesif modellde ise CT + TT'ye karşı CC genotipine sahip olmanın LDH riskini yaklaşık 6 kat (OR: 5.68 Cl: 2.4-13.5 p<0.001) azalttığı belirlenmiştir. MTHFR c.677C>T/PAI-1- 844G>A genotiplerinin ikili analizlerinde, CC genotipinin, koruyucu etkisinin AG genotipi ile birlikteliğinde arttırdığı (OR: 8.4 Cl:2.2-3.1 P<0.001), buna karşın TG genotipinin neden olduğu LDH riskini azalttığı (OR: 4.4 Cl: 1.5-12.1 P=0.005) belirlenmiştir.

Aim: The main purpose of this study was to examine how a change in thiol/disulfide balance, which plays a significant role in cellularactivities like detoxification, antioxidant protection, apoptosis, and cell growth, affects fibromyalgia (FM) patients.Material and Methods: This study was executed in two groups, included 46 female FM patients and 46 healthy female subjects. TheAmerican College of Rheumatology (ACR) standard was used to diagnose patients with fibromyalgia. The automated measurementmethod was used to examine the native thiol-disulfide exchanges in both groups. Results: After determining the parameters of thiol/disulphide balance for groups, it was discovered that the mean total thiol (p =0.009), native thiol levels (p = 0.001), native thiol/total thiol (p < 0.001) percent ratios were higher in control group than FM group.Conversely, the disulphide levels (p = 0.026), disulphide/native thiol percent ratios (p < 0.001), disulphide/total thiol percent ratios (p< 0.001) were lower in control group than FM group. Conclusion: The study demonstrates that the thiol/disulfide equilibrium could be a new oxidative stress marker that can be usedfor FM. However, it is considered that there needs to be more confirmatory studies to use thiol/disulfide balance in fibromyalgia asa stress marker.
