Color Matching Ability Among Single-Shade Resin Composites: Instrumental and Visual Evaluation

    Gömleksiz, Seda

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the color-matching ability of 4 single-shade resin composites (RCs), using 2 different evaluation methods. Methods: One hundred and twelve specimens (8 × 2 mm) were fabricated in disc shape using 4 single-shade RCs (Omnichroma (OM), Essentia Universal (EU), Zenchroma (ZC), and Charisma Diamond One (CDO)) (n = 28). The specimens were randomly divided into 4 subgroups (na = 7), and cylindrical cavities (4 × 1 mm) were prepared in the center of each specimen. The cavities were then restored with either the same material or one of the other single-shade RCs. Color matching was measured instrumentally using a spectrophotometer and visually using a 0-4 scoring scale. Data were recorded and statistically analyzed (P < .05). Results: When instrumental analysis results were evaluated, ΔE00 values above the clinically acceptable threshold were observed in all groups except the control groups. The highest ΔE00 value was seen in the OM-EU group (P < .05); OM showed the worst color matching. The best color matching was observed in CDO. When visual analysis results were examined, the highest visual scores were seen in the EU-OM and ZC-OM groups (P < .05), whereas CDO presented the lowest visual scores. Conclusion: Color-matching ability of single-shade RCs varies depending on the material composition. Single-shade RCs with higher translucency after polymerization and enhanced optical design may provide better color matching. Some color differences detected instrumentally may not always be visually perceptible under clinical conditions.

Effect of Whitening Mouthrinses on Color Change of Stained Teeth: In Vitro Study

    Hubbezoglu, Ihsan; Gömleksiz, Seda

Objective: This in vitro study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of three different whitening mouthrinses on the color change and whiteness of stained teeth at different immersion times. Methods: Thirty-two human incisors teeth were stained in black tea solution for seven days and randomly divided into four groups, which were control (artifical saliva) and three whitening mouthrinses (containing tetrapotassium pyrophosphate, hydrogen peroxide, charcoal powder) (n=8). Spectrophotometric measurements were performed at baseline, after staining, after 12 hours, and 120 hours after keeping in whitening mouthrinses. The color changes and whiteness indexes occurring at different immersion times and after teeth staining were calculated. Results: The whitening mouthrinses tested showed similar changes in color change while exhibiting color change above the clinically acceptable threshold. Regarding whiteness index values, the highest value was obtained in the mouthrinse containing hydrogen peroxide with an immersion time of 120 hours (P < 0.05). While there was no significant difference in color change values at different immersion times, it was observed that the whiteness index values increased with increasing immersion time. Conclusion: Whitening mouthrinses can provide a clinically noticeable color change in discolored teeth. It can be said that using mouthrinses containing peroxide can provide more effective whitening on stained teeth.

The Effect of Various Surface Treatments and Materials on the Bond Strength in the Repair of Glass Hybrid Restorative Material

    Gömleksiz, Seda; Gömleksiz, Oğuzhan

Objective: The purpose of this in vitro study is to evaluate the effect of various surface treatments (STs) and restorative materials on the shear bond strength (SBS) of glass hybrid (GH) restorative materials. Methods: Sixty-three GH restorative material samples (Equia Forte Fil, GC) were prepared (6 × 2 mm) and randomly divided into 3 groups according to the subsequent ST (n = 21): phosphoric acid etching (PA), aluminum oxide sandblasting (AO), and diamond bur roughening (DB). After that, 3 subgroups were created from the samples in each group based on the restoration material applied: Ionofil Molar AC (IM; Voco), Fuji II LC (FLC; GC), and Charisma Smart (CS; Kulzer). The bonded specimens were subjected to the SBS test. In addition, the samples were evaluated with a scanning electron microscopy. The results were statistically examined using twoway analysis of variance with post hoc test (P = .05). Results: The CS groups were higher in SBS compared to the other groups, whereas the IM groups had low bond strength (P < .05). The FLC, CS, DB, and PA groups showed the highest SBS (P < .05). The lowest SBS values were observed in the PA group in IM (P < .05). Conclusion: The GH restorative materials were successfully repaired with composite resin using diamond bur roughening or phosphoric acid etching.

Hipomineralize Mine Defektlerinin Vital Beyazlatma Sonrası Er:Yag Lazer İle Minimal İnvaziv Rehabilitasyonu: Olgu sunumu

Hubbezoglu, Ihsan; Gömleksiz, Seda; Akın, Emine Gülşah Göktolga

Diş hekimliği uygulamalarında fonksiyon ve fonasyonun yanısıra doğal diş estetiğinin de hastaya yeniden kazandırılması gün geçtikçe önem kazanmaktadır. Estetik sorunların çözümünde günümüzde daha konservatif tedavi seçenekleri tercih edilmektedir. Son yıllarda teknolojik gelişmeleri takiben lazer uygulamaları oldukça popüler hale gelmiştir. Lazer teknolojisindeki gelişmelerle beraber her geçen gün lazerin diş hekimliğinde kullanımı ile ilgili olarak yeni olanaklar ortaya çıkmaktadır. Diğer geleneksel yöntemlere göre lazer uygulaması, lazer ışınının kolaylıkla yönlendirilebilmesi ve yüksek miktarda enerjinin küçük noktalara odaklanabilmesi nedeniyle oldukça ileri bir tedavi yöntemidir. Bu vaka sunumunda; ön grup dişlerdeki mine defektlerinin vital beyazlatma uygulaması sonrası, Er:YAG lazer ile defekten minimal doku kaldırılıp, direkt kompozit rezin ile restorasyonunun tamamlanması hedeflenmiştir.
