Using Station Technique at Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language

Since the early days of language teaching, researchers have been interested in how to teach the foreign language. In this direction, many methods and techniques have been tried throughout the process, and the orientations towards new methods and techniques have also continued. Today, various methods and techniques are preferred in the environments where Turkish language as a foreign language. Effective teaching of Turkish is aimed with these methods and techniques called traditional and contemporary. The station technique also stands out as one of the contemporary techniques that can be used in language teaching due to its structure. The aim of this study is to evaluate the use of station technique in teaching Turkish as a foreign language according to student’ views. The study was carried out with phenomenological designwithin the framework of qualitative research method. The research was carried out in Erzincan province in TÖMER. Twelve foreign students studying at TÖMER attended the study. The data of the study were collected through a semi-structured interview form consisting of semi-open ended questions. The analysis of the obtained data was carried out by content analysis. In the interviews, participants were found to find the station technique to be different and useful, to improve communication between students and teachers, to contribute to the students from various angles; and students think that this technique should be used in other courses. From the results obtained, it has been proposed to increase the number of activities with station technique and enrich itwith different contents to use this technique in acquiring and developing language skills.
