Objective: One of the serious mental disorders in which people interpret reality in an abnormal situation is schizophrenia. A combination of extremely disordered thoughts, delusions, and hallucinations occurs due to schizophrenia, and the person's daily functions are seriously impaired due to this disease. For general cognitive activity analysis, electroencephalography signals are widely used as a low-resolution diagnostic tool. This study aimed to diagnose schizophrenia using the transfer learning method by including the EEGs of 73 patients diagnosed with schizophrenia, and 67 patients from the healthy group. Material and Method: In the first step of the study, digital electroencephalography signal data was converted into spectrograms to make them usable. In the classification phase, ResNet18, ResNet50 and EfficientNet models, which are FastAI, and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) based deep learning models, were used. Results: Despite the complexity of electroencephalography data, CNN-based models in the study were successful in capturing different aspects of neurophysiological activity. The best performance was obtained from the ResNet-50 model with an accuracy rate of 97%. Afterwards, the classification process was finalized with 95% ResNet-18, and 83% EfficientNet models, respectively. Conclusion: It is thought that the classification performance of the result obtained in the application is promising, and may be a guide for future studies.

Objective: It is known that inflammation plays a role in the etiopathogenesis of schizophrenia. In this study, we examined high mobility group box 1 protein (HMGB1) and Beclin 1 levels and their relationship with clinical variables in patients with schizophrenia. Method: Forty-three patients with schizophrenia and 43 healthy controls were included in this study. The patients were administered sociodemographic data form, the Positive Negative Symptoms Assessment Scale (PANSS) and the Clinical Global Impressions (CGI) scale. After the scales were filled, venous blood samples were taken from both the patient and control groups to measure serum HMGB1 and Beclin 1 levels. Serum samples obtained at the end of centrifugation were measured by Enzyme -Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay (ELISA) method. Results: The mean serum HMGB1 levels were significantly increased and the mean serum Beclin 1 levels were significantly decreased in the schizophrenia group compared to the control group. In addition, a negative correlation was found between HMGB1 and Beclin 1 levels. Conclusion: In conclusion, current research shows that HMGB1 is increased and Beclin 1 is decreased in patients with schizophrenia, and these findings may contribute to the role of autophagy in the pathogenesis of schizophrenia.

Objective: Based on the idea that there may be a link between smartphone addiction and adult separation anxiety disorder (ASAD), our aim was to examine the impacts of ASAD symptoms on nomophobia and whether they predict nomophobia among ASAD patients. Method: We randomly recruited 50 patients diagnosed with ASAD and 50 control subjects satisfying the inclusion criteria. We collected the data using a sociodemographic information form, the Adult Separation Anxiety Questionnaire (ASA-27), the Nomophobia Questionnaire (NMP-Q), the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). Results: Fifty-four percent of the patients had moderate, and 46% showed mild nomophobia symptoms. The results revealed that, compared to healthy controls, the patients had significantly higher scores on the ASA-27, the BDI, the BAI, the NMP-Q (total), the NMP-Q not being able to access information, the NMP-Q giving up convenience, the NMP-Q not being able to communicate, and the NMP-Q losing connectedness (p=0.006 for the NMP-Q giving up convenience; p<0.001 for others). Moreover, the results yielded significant positive relationships between ASAD and the participants' nomophobia total and subscale scores (except for losing connectedness) (p<0.05). Finally, ASAD scores significantly predicted nomophobia, not being able to access information, giving up convenience, and not being able to communicate. Discussion: To the best of our knowledge, our study is the first to report nomophobia levels among patients diagnosed with ASAD. The increased severity of separation anxiety symptoms contributed to the severity of nomophobia in the patients, which, in turn, significantly boosted the severity of their depression and anxiety.

Aim: It has been reported that schizophrenia (SZ) patients had poor sleep quality and displayed evening chronotype, and certain behavioral differences had been observed between chronotypes. In this study, we aimed to compare chronotype and sleep quality in criminal SZ patients and to examine the correlation of chronotype with crime types.Material and Methods: Ninety-one criminal SZ patients and 91 healthy controls were included. Participants were administered the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and the Morningness -Eveningness Questionnaire (MEQ).Results: While 28.6 % of the patient group were evening-, 36.3 % were intermediate-and 35.2% waere morning-type, it was seen that 8.8% of the control group were evening-, 31.9% were intermediate-and 59.3% were morning-type, and a significant difference was observed between them (p<0.001). The sleep quality in the patient group was significantly lower than in the control group (p<0.001). In the patient group, the crime rate between 24:00 and 06:00 was found to be significantly higher among evening types compared to other types (p<0.001).Discussion: Criminal schizophrenia patients are of the evening type compared to the control group and have poor sleep quality. Corrective interventions for sleep and chronotype in SZ patients may change the rates and nature of crimes.

Aim: Migraine is a prevalent chronic disease with unknown etiopathogenesis that affects the quality of life. In the present study, we aimed to investigate anxiety, depression, coping with stress and psychological resilience of migraine patients. Material and Methods: The study was conducted with 40 patients and 40 healthy individuals. The study data were collected with a sociodemographic and clinical data form, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Psychological Resilience Scale for Adults (RSA), and Inventory of Coping Strategies (ICS). Results: It was determined that the RSA-structural resilience, RSA-social competence, BDI, BAI, ICS-optimism and ICS-social support scores of the patients were significantly higher when compared to the control group, RSA-self-perception, RSA-future perception, RSA-familial conformity, RSA-social resources, RSA-total and ICS-safe approach scores were significantly lower in the patient group when compared to the controls. There were positive correlations between the number of migraine attacks and RSA-future perception, RSA-familial conformity, RSA-social resources and RSA-total scores of the patients; There was a significant negative correlation between the number of migraine attacks and ICS-optimism scores. Discussion: The incidence of anxiety and depression was significantly higher and psychological resilience was significantly lower in the patients when compared to the control group. It could be suggested that patients could prefer ineffective coping strategies and their psychological resilience could be low. The determination of the psychiatric complications associated with migraine could alter treatment interventions, and thus, the prognosis.

Aim: Somatic symptom disorder (SSD) is a psychiatric disorder with unknown etiopathogenesis that is still under investigation. The results of neuroimaging studies on SSD have shown that some brain regions may be associated with it. In this connection, this study aims to explore the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) morphometric changes in patients with SSD to better comprehend the etiopathogenesis.Material and Methods: The study enrolled 20 patients and 20 healthy controls. All study participants were administered a sociodemographic and clinical questionnaire, the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D) and the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A). The volumes of total brain, OFC, total white matter, and total gray matter were measured by a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based method in studied patients. Results: Orbitofrontal cortex volume was significantly smaller in the patient group than in healthy controls (p<0.05). No significant difference between the two groups could be observed in total brain, white matter and gray matter volumes (p>0.05).Conclusions: The OFC was markedly smaller in SSD patients than in healthy controls, suggesting that the OFC may be associated with SSD pathophysiology. Future studies examining the functional features of the OFC using imaging and cognitive function tests will likely shed more light on this issue.

Purpose: Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is a psychiatric condition where both physical and mental symptoms are observed due to the activation of the sympathetic system. It is known that the disorder affects the cardiovascular system. The present study aimed to analyze arterial stiffness in GAD patients and compare the findings with healthy controls. Materials and Methods: 40 patients diagnosed with GAD and 40 healthy individuals were included in the study. Carotid and femoral artery intima-medial thickness (IMT) and arterial thickness parameters were measured with Doppler ultrasonography. Results: The femoral IMT of the patients was significantly low. Although the carotid IMT was higher in patients when compared to the controls, the difference was not statistically significant. A significant negative correlation was determined between fluoxetine equivalent dose and femoral IMT. There was a correlation between femoral IMT and fluoxetine equivalent dose. Conclusion: Arterial stiffness should be investigated for its potential to indicate cardiovascular risk in GAD. Further comprehensive studies should be conducted to clarify whether atherosclerosis symptoms were associated with the nature of the GAD or prescription medicine.

Background: It has been known that there is a significant correlation between depres- sion and cardiovascular diseases. However, the reasons behind this correlation that could affect mortality and morbidity were not fully identified. The present study aimed to ana- lyze arterial stiffness diagnosed with ultrasonography, which could be associated with car- diovascular disease risks in depression patients, and to compare the findings with those of healthy controls. Methods: The study was conducted with 35 depression patients and 35 healthy individu- als. Routine complete blood and biochemistry tests were requested for all patients, and their weight and height, waist circumference, and diastolic and systolic arterial blood pressure were measured. Femoral and carotid artery intima-media thickness and other arterial stiffness parameters were determined with Doppler ultrasonography. Results: It was determined that the systolic pressure (P = .028) was higher in the patient group (P = .028). Also, the carotid elastic modulus (P = .048) was significantly higher in the patient group. A negative and significant correlation was determined between femoral compliance and chlorpromazine equivalent dose (P = .021, r = −0.389). Conclusion: It was determined that the systolic blood pressure and carotid elastic modulus arterial stiffness parameters were significantly higher in depression patients. Measurable arterial stiffness parameters should be investigated in depression patients as cardiovas- cular risk markers. Furthermore, the determination of the effects of psychotropic drugs employed in arterial stiffness treatment could play an important role in the determination of cardiovascular disease risk in these patients.

Background: Antisocial personality disorder is a frequently studied personality disorder, and its etiopathogenesis is still investigated. Neuroimaging demonstrated that certain regions of the brain could be associated with this disorder, and in the present study, we aimed to investigate the changes in retina, which could be considered an extension of the brain in antisocial personality disorder patients with optical coherence tomography. Methods: The study was conducted with 35 patients and 35 healthy controls. The study data were collected with the Sociodemographic and Clinical Data Form, Beck Anxiety Inventory, Beck Depression Inventory, and Barratt Impulsivity Scale—Short Form. Retinal nerve fiber layer thickness, choroidal thickness, and macular thickness were analyzed based on optical coherence tomography. Results: The Beck Depression Inventory (P= .044), Beck Anxiety Inventory (P = .005), Barratt Impulsivity Scale—motor (P < .001), Barratt Impulsivity Scale—non-planning dimension (P < .001), and Barratt Impulsivity Scale—total scores (P < .001) of the patients were signifi- cantly higher when compared to the controls. The superior (P = .013) and inferior retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (P < .001) of the patients were significantly lower when com- pared to the control group. Conclusion: Retinal nerve fiber layer thickness was significantly lower in the patient group when compared to healthy controls, which suggested that it could be associated with the pathophysiology of antisocial personality disorder.
