Havayolu yolcularının Sadakat Davranışlarının Öncüllerine Yönelik Meta Analitik Bir İnceleme

    Polat, Muhammed

A Bibliometric Analysis of Airline Consumers’ Purchasing Behaviour in Digital Age

    Polat, Muhammed

Due to the application of developments in information and communication technologies to business processes in air transportation, it has come to possess a consumer base that, like in other sectors, can plan their travels in the virtual environment as they wish. This has led to changes in consumer behaviour or consumption habits. This study aims to examine the purchasing behaviours of airline consumers in the digital age using bibliometric analysis methods through the existing literature. Within the scope of the bibliometric analysis technique, the science mapping analysis and performance analysis methods were utilized through the R-studio program's biblioshiny extension using the Web of Science database. The 93 results obtained were reduced to 68 as a result of exclusion criteria. East Asian universities are the most contributing universities. Journal of Air Transport Management (JATM) is the most productive journal. The most frequently used words are service quality, customer satisfaction, and loyalty. This finding explains the role of these three words in the formation of purchasing behaviour. In the relevant literature, it is observed that studies on the factors affecting purchasing behaviour or intention in air transportation are increasing. However, it is not known which of these variables stand out, which study has inspired other studies, or which study has been most frequently cited by other studies. This study fulfils an important gap from this perspective.

Barriers to Sustainable Aviation Fuel Adoption in U.S. Airport Infrastructure: A Systematic Review

    Dinler, Nurettin; Tamilselvan, Gajapriya

Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from aircraft are a growing concern, as they contribute to global carbon emissions. One of the most prominent approaches to mitigating aviation emissions is transitioning from jet fuel to sustainable alternatives. This study examines the main barriers to adopting Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) in U.S. airport infrastructure. Through a systematic literature review, it identifies the key barriers that hinder SAF adoption in U.S. airport infrastructure. The findings suggest that multiple interrelated factors constrain its large-scale deployment across the U.S. airport system. High production costs and limited fuel availability remain important economic barriers. Many U.S. airports also lack the infrastructure needed to support large-scale SAF storage, blending, and distribution. These infrastructure limitations are linked not only to aging airport facilities but also to regulatory and certification requirements. Fragmented policy frameworks and limited coordination among key stakeholders create additional challenges for SAF implementation. Based on these findings, the study proposes a conceptual framework that groups the main barriers to SAF adoption into four related categories: economic, infrastructural, policy/regulatory, and market/stakeholder. The framework also recognizes collegiate aviation programs as an important but often overlooked stakeholder in SAF adoption. The proposed framework may provide a foundation for future research and policy development for a more sustainable aviation system.

Low-Cost Airline Pilots on Exercising Fuel-Loading Policies Designed to Minimize Carrying Extra Fuel during Flight: A Phenomenological Exploration Study

Dinler, Nurettin; Tamilselvan, Gajapriya; Bollock, Nithil Kumar; Belt, Stephen

The purpose of this study was to explore low-cost carrier (LCC) pilots’ lived experiences of exercising their airlines’ fuel-loading policies designed to minimize carrying extra (discretionary) fuel during flight. Using a phenomenological approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with seven Part 121 LCC pilots in the United States. Participants were recruited through purposive snowball sampling, and the data were analyzed using Creswell’s (2013) data analysis spiral. Participants described FAA oversight and the joint responsibility between captains and dispatchers as important aspects of their airlines' fuel-loading policies designed to minimize extra fuel. However, many expressed concerns that such policies reduced the range of options available in unexpected operational situations. Participants also described additional workload and time pressure associated with calculating, requesting, and justifying additional fuel, particularly during delays and disruptions. Overall, the findings suggest that conservative fuel-loading policies may be experienced as a source of psychological stress and highlight the challenges pilots face in balancing fuel-efficiency objectives with operational demands.

Analysing the Ethical Factors Affecting the Purchasing Behaviour of University Youth in the Digital Environment with Extended Planned Behaviour Theory (TPB)

    Polat, Muhammed

Ethical values, which have become one of the most prominent issues of the digital age, have started to guide consumption behaviour. This situation becomes much more important for businesses in terms of an- alysing consumer behaviour in a country with a young population like Türkiye. This research aims to examine the ethical factors affecting young consumers’ purchasing behaviour in the digital age by extend- ing the TPB theory. In accordance with the purpose of the research, ethical considerations (EC) and trust (TR) were added to TPB. In this way, TPB has gained functionality in terms of explaining ethical con- sumption behaviour as well as adding depth to the study. The proposed research model was tested using the structural equation modelling technique. The convenience sampling method was benefited for this research and the necessary data for the analyses were collected from 333 young consumers, providing adequate data for the sample size, between the ages of 18-25 with the help of face-to-face surveys. Find- ings show that the EC has a partial mediating effect on the relation- ships of attitude (AT), perceived behavioural control (PBC) and trust (TR) with the purchase intention (PI) v. AT, PBC and TR have both direct and indirect effects on the formation of purchasing intention. There is no significant effect of the subjective norms (SN) to purchase intention. The R² value of the PI is 0.41. This value provides a stron- ger explanation for purchasing behaviour than the original model. The research not only provides an understanding of the consumption be- haviours of young consumers in terms of ethical values in today’s dig- ital age but also provides important data to businesses and researchers in this field.

Workplace Conflict Effect on Innovative Behavior:The Roles of Engagement and Proactive Personality

    Yelgin, Cetin; Geylan, Asli

Conflict is as natural a phenomenon as harmony in social relations. In all industries, especially those prioritizing collaborative teamwork, it is clear that effective conflict management is critical to sustaining positive employee relationships. With this study, we set out to investigate the impact of workplace conflicts on employee innovation. For this purpose, data were collected from employees through a survey conducted in the aviation industry in Turkey, and 393 responses were received. Structural Equation Modeling was used for hypothesis testing. The study revealed that conflict with colleagues has a detrimental impact on both innovative behaviors and work engagement. Work engagement was identified as a complete mediator in the relationship between conflict and innovative behaviors. Furthermore, a proactive personality was found to moderate the influence of conflict on innovative behaviors, also playing a significant role in the indirect relationship among these variables. The research concludes with practical recommendations for managers and suggestions to researchers for future studies.

A Visualized Bibliometric Analysis of Mapping Research Trends Of Airline Business Models (ABMs) from 1985 to 2021

    Tanrıverdi, Gökhan; Durak, Mehmet Sahin

Deregulation and liberalization acts have contributed to the emergence of various airline business models (ABMs) in the airline industry by putting competition ahead. Influenced by catastrophic crises, increased competition, and changes in customer needs and expectations, airlines have had to innovate their business models or converge them with others over time. Thus, the topic of ABM has attracted tremendous scholarly attention. However, the extant literature lacks a visualized bibliometric study that investigates the evolution of ABM in depth. In this context, this paper employs a comprehensive visualized bibliometric analysis through CiteSpace software to present the evolution of the topic “airline business model” and its possible trends in the post Covid-19 era by benefiting 652 articles on ABMs published during the period from 1985 to 2021. The results reveal that studies on ABMs have increased especially over the past few years, and Journal of Air Transport Management is the leader outlet preferred by authors on this topic. In addition, although studies on low-cost carriers have an obvious dominance over studies on other ABMs, the results provide some evidence that studies on long-haul business models will increasingly continue in the future.
