Yarar, Hakan; Eskici, Gunay; Yilmaz, Sevil Karahan; Kuca, Volkan; Yazici, Bayram

Aim: The purpose of this study is to ascertain the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of students studying in the Coaching Education Department of the Faculty of Sport Sciences regarding the utilization of nutritional ergogenic supplements. Methods: 61.5% of the participants were male (n=264), 38.5% (n=166) were female. Data were collected by conducting an online questionnaire. 19.5 % of students reported using ergogenic nutritional supplement products. The students received an average score of 3.1 +/- 0.7 on the benefit sub-dimension of the attitude scale toward nutritional ergogenic supplement products, 2.7 +/- 0.6 on the side effects and ethical sub-dimension, and 2.9 +/- 0.7 on the natural nutrition sub-dimension. Results: A significant difference has been detected in the mean scores of students on the benefit sub-dimension depending on their gender, sports branch, and use of nutritional supplement products, on the side effects and ethical sub-dimension depending on their gender, class, and use of nutritional supplement products, and on the natural nutrition sub-dimension depending on their gender and use of nutritional supplement products (p<0.05). Conclusion: Students gave the expected answer to most of the questions regarding the use of nutritional ergogenic supplements. Observing the beneficial effect of taking the sports nutrition course on the responses, reveals the importance of education once again.

The Relationship Between Body Compositions of Taekwondo Practitioners Aged 14-16 and Their Aerobic Endurance

    Yilmaz, Duygu Sevinc; Aydemir, Burakhan

Background: Taekwondo (TKD) is a combat sport practiced by millions of children, young people and adults around the world.1 It is an Olympic sports branch with many complex features and constant interaction between two opponents in the competitions, where attack-contact techniques are applied quickly, attacking techniques are strong2,3 but also have good flexibility. Aim: This study has been carried out to identify the relationship between body composition of taekwondo practitioners aged 14-16 who regularly practice taekwondo, and their aerobic endurance. Methods: A total of 33 registered taekwondo practitioners (17 male, 16 female) participated to this study on a voluntary basis. The age, height, weight, and body mass index of all the athletes who took part in the study are 14.96 +/- 0.80 years, 162.59 +/- 11.59 cm, 50.97 +/- 7.51 kg and 19.14 +/- 2.39 kg/m(2) respectively. The group who participated to the study practice taekwondo two days a week, for 2 hours each, for a period of 1.5 years. The aerobic endurance of taekwondo athletes was measured by 20-meter-long Shuttle Run Test. In order to measure the body composition values of the athletes, measurements of skinfold thickness (biceps, triceps, subscapula, subrailiac) were carried out. In calculating the body density, the formula of Durning-Womersley was used; and in calculating the body fat percentage, the formula of Siri was employed. Data was evaluated by SPSS 22.0. The normality distribution of the data obtained at the end of the study was evaluated by Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and it was observed that the data was in line with normal distribution. Following the normalcy assessment, the relationship between body compositions and aerobic endurances was determined by Pearson Correlation analysis. Results: It is possible to say that the body composition values of taekwondo practitioners aged 14-16 have positive and negative impact on their aerobic endurance. It is observed that as the values 20-meter Shuttle Run test increases, fat percentage of athletes decreases. Conclusion: It is concluded that the findings obtained from the research results support the literature, and that body composition and aerobic capacity are important as performance criteria in many studies. It is thought that it may be beneficial for the athletes to perform aerobic endurance exercises during the annual training periods to perform the necessary practices to optimize their body composition and improve their aerobic capacity.

Investigation of Readiness and Expectations of Students of Sports Science Faculties Regarding the E-Learning Process and Their Self-Efficacy Perceptions

Malli, Ahmet Yavuz; Ekinci, Hasan Bugra; Seçer, Emrah; Demirel, Nurcan; Sam, Cemil Tugrulhan

Aim: The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the readiness and expectations of the students of sports science faculties regarding the e-Learning process as well as their self-efficacy perceptions. Methods: The research group consists of 146 men and 64 women studying at the faculties of sports sciences, a total of 210 university students. Personal Information Form, Readiness and Expectation Scale for e-Learning Process and General Self-efficacy Scale (GSE) were applied to the participants. In the analysis of the data, the appropriateness of the parametric tests was reviewed and the independent sample t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation and simple linear regression analysis were used. Results: In the study, it is seen that there is no significant difference in self-efficacy perceptions and its sub-dimensions according to gender and habit of playing sports actively, but there is a statistical difference between the groups when compared according to grade level. It is found that there is a significant difference in the readiness and expectations of e-Learning in favor of women in terms of only the dimension of factors that affect success according to gender. It is observed that according to habit of playing sports actively, the scores of those who play sports are high in total score averages and in all other dimensions except for the dimension of factors affecting success, and there is a statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of access to technology and technical skills when compared according to the grade. It is seen that there is a positive linear relationship between self-efficacy perception and readiness and expectation for e-Learning, and that self-efficacy perception explains 6% of the variance in readiness and expectations for e-Learning. Conclusion: In the research, it is concluded that the self-efficacy perceptions and readiness for e-Learning of those who play sports actively are higher, and that self-efficacy perception is an important predictor of their readiness and expectations regarding e-Learning.

The Effect of Exercise on Death Anxiety

Ekinci, Hasan Bugra; Malli, Ahmet Yavuz; Demirel, Nurcan; Sam, Cemil Tugrulhan

Aim: This research is planned to identify the effect of exercise on death anxiety in women in the post-menopausal period. Methods: This research is an experiment patterned study (Pre-test/post-test control group model). This model is a two-factor experimental design that shows repetitive measurements (pre-test- post-test) and subjects (experiment-control) in different categories. A total of 36 women voluntarily participated in the study in Erzincan, including 18 women in the experimental group who go through menopause and exercise, and 18 women in the control group who go through menopause and never exercise. The experimental group were given Pilates exercises 3 days a week for 8 weeks, and the control group were asked to preserve their daily lives without regular exercise. In the research, personal information form containing sociodemographic variables of individuals and the Templer Death Anxiety Scale (DAS) form adapted to Turkish by Akga, KOse (2008) were used as data collection tools. After identifying the distribution characteristics in the analysis of the data, paired t-test was used for in-group comparisons and independence sample t-test was used for intergroup comparisons in order to identify the effectiveness of the exercise program and to discover the difference between the first and last test scores of the groups. Results: In the Death Anxiety Scale, the mean death anxiety score was found to be 8.66 as a result of the pretest performed in the experimental group. And after the exercise, the mean score was 8.38. Although there was no statistically significant difference, there was a decrease in the death anxiety score averages. The mean preexercise death anxiety score of the control group was found to be 8.33. The mean post-exercise score was found to be 8.22. Conclusion: There was no significant effect of 8 weeks of exercise on death anxiety. It is understood that even if exercise has some positive physical and psychological contributions on the subjects during this period, a strong anxiety such as death cannot be eliminated in such a short time.
