Global Tea Production Forecasting Using ARIMA Models: A Multi-Country Time-Series Analysis (1961–2028)

    Kumbasaroglu, Hediye

Understanding the long-term dynamics of global tea production is essential for assessing supply stability, climate sensitivity, and producer competitiveness. This study examines annual tea production data for major producing countries—China, India, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Türkiye, Vietnam, and other producer groups—over the period 1961–2023 and provides production forecasts for 2024–2028 using country-specific ARIMA models. Unlike most existing studies focusing on single countries or short-term horizons, this research offers a unified multi-country and long-term comparative framework that integrates time-series forecasting with market concentration indicators. The results reveal pronounced cross-country heterogeneity in production behavior, with China exhibiting strong structural growth, while other producers display more moderate or climate-sensitive patterns. Forecasts suggest a continued increase in global tea production toward 2028, although projections are subject to uncertainty, as reflected by model-based confidence intervals. Overall, the study contributes robust, statistically validated insights to support evidence-based strategies for sustainable tea supply and international market planning. Forecasts suggest a continued increase in global tea production toward 2028, although projections are subject to uncertainty, as reflected by model-based confidence intervals. These forecasts highlight a robust upward trend in global tea supply due to both technological advancements and market expansion.

Analysis of the Factors Affecting Energy Drink Consumption Among University Students: The Case of Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University

    Kumbasaroglu, Hediye

The aim of this study is to identify the factors influencing energy drink consumption habits among students at Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University. Within the scope of the research, an online survey was administered to 288 university students. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, frequency analyses, a 5-point Likert scale, and Binary Logistic Regression methods. The mean level of concern regarding health effects among students who consume energy drinks (M = 2.75) was found to be lower than the overall sample average (M = 2.85), suggesting that these students tend to downplay the associated health risks. High agreement levels with statements such as “consumed more in social environments” (M = 2.88) and “consumption increases when with friends” (M = 2.75) indicate a strong influence of social context on consumption behavior. Psychological assessments revealed low levels of concern, suggesting that students perceive energy drinks primarily as a means of improving physiological performance rather than being emotionally driven. According to the Binary Logistic Regression results, factors such as age and family income negatively affect energy drink consumption, whereas variables such as social media use, academic level, and spending amount positively contribute to increased consumption. Additionally, students who prefer alternative beverages in the morning were significantly less likely to consume energy drinks. In conclusion, it is recommended that awareness be raised among students regarding the potential risks of energy drinks, social media advertising be regulated, and healthy beverage alternatives be promoted more effectively.

Global Pistachio Production Forecasts for 2020-2025

Uzundumlu, Ahmet Semih; Pinar, Veysel; Tosun, Nur E. R. T. E. K.; Kumbasaroglu, Hediye

Using 59 years of pistachio production data between 1961 and 2019, the production data of the leading countries in the 2020-2025 periods were tried to be predicted with the help of the ARIMA time series model. ARIMA (p, d, q) analysis model has been used by obtaining 59 years of production data from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). In addition, the data obtained from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TSI), FAO, and the International Trade Centre (ITC) were also used in the comparison of production, export, and import per capita. In the study, the world production data for the period of 2020-2025 were to be estimated with the data between 1961-2019. As a result of the findings obtained, according to the data obtained in the world, Iran, USA, Turkey, China, and Syria, an increase in production is foreseen in all countries and the world where studies are carried out in pistachio production. While the share of the five countries, which are the leaders in Pistachio production between 1961 and 2019, in the total world production is 97.99%, the share of Pistachio production between 2020-2025 in the total production is expected to be 97.51%. While the share of Iran and Syria from these five countries in world production will decrease, the share of the USA, Turkey, and China will increase. The two leading countries in pistachio exports are Iran and the USA. The fact that Germany, which does not influence production, has a significant share in both exports and imports brings to mind the derivative demand situation. Turkey, Iran, and Syria can create a better marketing strategy by reducing imports to Germany and increasing exports to European Union countries.

In the study, real prices (2019= 100) were primarily calculated based on the current prices of tomatoes. In the second phase, marketing margins were calculated using the current and real prices of tomatoes. In the third phase, producer and consumer chain indexes are calculated based on current prices and compared with annual inflation rates. In the last phase of the study, the supply and demand models of tomatoes were estimated and interpreted statistically. From the comparisons and comments, it was concluded that the pepper producer real price, trend (time), cucumber producer real price, agricultural worker real price variables are effective for tomato supply and tomato consumer real price, national income, cucumber consumer real price and pepper consumer real price variables are effective for tomato demand. In addition, according to the supply and demand function of the tomato, supply elasticity was calculated as 0.041 and demand elasticity as 0.285. This supports the fact that consumers are more sensitive to tomato prices than producers.
