In this study examining the effects of joint position sense, reaction time, and hand–eye coordination on upper-extremity blocking performance in adolescent taekwondo athletes, 11 licensed athletes from the Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Sports Club volunteered to participate. First, measurements of hand–eye coordination, joint position sense, and reaction time were obtained. Then, a competition simulation was conducted in which participants defended against a sequence of 20 attacks; the number of successful blocks was recorded on video. The video recordings were reviewed and scored by coaches with at least 10 years of experience. According to the Pearson correlation analyses, there was a strong positive association between the number of successful upper-extremity blocks and reaction time (r = 0.64, p = 0.03), and a strong negative association between joint position sense and block count (r = −0.61, p = 0.04). No relationship was found between hand–eye coordination and block count. Multiple regression results showed that joint position sense and reaction time together explained 45% of the variance in block performance, although neither variable alone was a significant independent predictor. These findings indicate that taekwondo blocking success is supported by a holistic set of factors. To improve defensive performance, training programs should be designed using sport-specific assessment methods, and it is recommended to incorporate light-based reaction drills to enhance reaction speed.

Erzeybek, Mustafa Said; Yüksel, Oguzhan; Kaya, Fatih; Önen, Mert Eray
In this study, the effects of eight-week combined training program on the development of anaerobic power and some isometric forces of korfball and basketball players are examined. 29 male (10 basketball players, 9 korfball players and 10 control group) university students, whose age range is 19-24 years, participated in the study. While basketball and korfball players were included in the training program, the participants in the control group continued their routine daily activities. Mean power (watts), peak power (watts), relative power (kg / watts), vertical jump (cm), right hand and left hand paw force (kg) and leg force (kg) were measured before and after the training program. Eight-week training program (3 days a week) consisted of resistance exercises (60-IRM), plyometric exercises (30 cm, 40 cm and 50 cm safes), common and intensive intervals (60-80% HR max), coordination and technical-tactical exercises. Statistically significant increase are determined in the peak power, relative power, vertical jump and leg force values of the basketball group and vertical jump, right hand, left hand and leg force values of the korfball group (p<0.05). In the light of the data obtained, it is seen that the increase in the performance values of basketball players is higher than the korfball players. Anaerobic power and vertical jump in basketball are more dominant than the korfball branch and the game progress is faster than the korfball. These reflect the effects of the training. As a result, it was observed that the combined training program used in this study contributes to improving the performance of basketball players, while different training models should be used for korfball players.

Ölmez, Cengiz; Akcan, Ibrahim Orkun
This study aims to compare the effects of repetitive sprint and calisthenics training methods on athletic performance improvement. The study was carried out with the voluntary participation of 20 international level kickboxers. Athletes were randomly assigned into two groups as Repetitive Sprint Training Group (RSTG) (n=10; age: 20, 20 +/- 1,32 years) and Calisthenics Training Group (CTG) (n=10; age: 21,20 +/- 1,23 years). Athletes participated in the training of their groups for six weeks, three times a week, every other day. The effects of training methods on the performance improvement of athletes were examined by measurements and tests performed at the pre-test (T1), interim-test (T2), and post-test (T3) stages. Athletes' height, body composition (body weight, body mass index, body fat mass), aerobic endurance (VO2max), peak anaerobic power, and isometric leg (knee, flexion-extension) strength values (60 degrees/sec- 90 degrees/sec) has been examined. At the end of the study, the data were analyzed at a 95% significance level. The results of the study revealed that the repetitive sprint and calisthenics training methods were effective on body composition, aerobic endurance, anaerobic power, and isokinetic strength parameters (p1<0.05), but the effect level was similar in both training methods (p2>0.05). Repetitive sprint and calisthenics training methods are both effective in regulating the body composition of athletes and accelerating aerobic endurance, power, and strength progress, but when designed at similar training intensity, both methods have similar effects.
- Review ArticleYalnız künye2021The Effect of Core Exercises on Sporsal Performance: Taekwondo Example Mini Compilation
Yılmaz, Duygu Sevinç
Most competitive athletes try a variety of training methods for athletic performance. Insufficiently exercised core muscle groups can adversely affect performance. In every sport branch, basic motoric features (strength, balance, flexibility, etc.), technical-tactical development must be studied according to the relevant branch. In the Taekwondo branch, in addition to the basic motor properties, good balance, flexibility, explosive leg strength and fast recovery are required. Core muscles play a major role in the development of the properties required for this branch. Strengthening the core muscles and stability exercises have become indispensable for not only taekwondo athletes but also athletes of all levels and branches. The core muscles act as bridges between the upper and lower limbs. Strong and stable core muscles kinetically help generate and transfer power. The purpose of this review is to examine core training methods that can be useful for taekwondo athletes. It is thought that giving intensity to the training of core muscle groups in Taekwondo will greatly help improve spine movements and athlete performance. In addition, the applied core training can help improve recovery, flexibility, balance and explosive power during the competition. According to the current literature, the sample group and performance status should be determined well in order for core studies to be useful. In parallel with this, we can say that the adjustment of the number of set-repetitions, the auxiliary materials used, and the variety of movement according to the characteristics of the sample group may be beneficial for performance improvement.
