Yücel, Ilhami; Özlok, Kasim Kagan; Kaya, Yasin; Çelik, Omer

This study examines the mediating role of role ambiguity and the moderating effect of gender on the relationship between work overload and turnover intention. Using a quantitative approach, the study investigated the relationships among work overload, role ambiguity and turnover intention. Data collected from 408 participants working in chain supermarkets in T & uuml;rkiye were analyzed using SPSS 27 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, USA), AMOS 24 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, USA) and the PROCESS macro. While work overload was positively related to turnover intention, role ambiguity mediated this relationship. Gender also played a moderating role in these relationships. This study is among the few to examine the role of gender in the relationship between work overload and turnover intention. In addition, it proposes a new analytical framework that incorporates a gender perspective into the model through an examination of the role of role ambiguity in this relationship.

The Mediating Role of Self-Esteem in the Relationship Between Perceived Ethnic Discrimination and Continuance Commitment of Migrant Workers

Yücel, İlhami; Gomes, Daniel Roque; Ribeiro, Neuza; Özlok, Kasım Kağan

This study aims to examine the relationship between perceived ethnic discrimination by migrant workers (applicants for international protection) and continuance commitment, and to analyze whether this relationship is mediated by self-esteem. In addition, it aims to contribute to the literature on the organizational outcomes of perceived ethnic discrimination. This research was conducted through a questionnaire survey of 411 migrants who applied for international protection in Turkey. As a result of the study, perceived ethnic discrimination was found to be a predictor of continuance commitment and self-esteem. In addition, it was observed that self-esteem has a mediating role in the relationship between perceived ethnic discrimination and continuance commitment. The results offer important implications for organizations and organization managers on how migrant workers should be managed and which issues require specific attention. The application of the study on migrant workers and the examination of these variables provide important contributions and practical implications to the literature. In addition, this is a rare study that examines the mediator model with the variables specified in the model using social identity theory, which has not yet been widely covered in existing literature.

The data obtained in the research has been subjected to analysis through SPSS 24 and Process Macro (4.2) programs. The hypotheses in the study has been developed based on the Job Demands and Resources Theory. As a result of the analysis of the data, it was concluded that the effect of role overload on job stress is positive and significant, the effect on job satisfaction is negative and insignificant, and job stress has a negative and significant effect on job satisfaction. It was determined that job stress has a full mediating effect on the effect of role overload on job satisfaction. These results reveal that education policy makers and administrators working in the education sector should produce policies that will enable teachers to increase their productivity and job satisfaction and reduce their job stress.

Companies do not only eliminate waste but also theytry to keep their competitiveness as high as their competitors. Lean manufacturinghas some tools such as Value Stream Mapping, Kanban, Kaizen, 5s, CONWIPetc. to imply over the production system to enhance its effectiveness. The aim ofthis paper is to apply Value Stream Mapping to improve production line of atextile company through a case study. Value stream mapping (VSM) is one ofthe most used lean manufacturing technique for illustrating and analyzing thelogic of a production process and it provides companies to monitor all productionline systematically. Value stream mapping is a projection of the flow ofcomponents and materials through a supply chain in an organization as well asthe flow of information. The main idea of VSM is to control the system as awhole. In this paper, VSM was used to demonstrate the present production lineand imply lean techniques. Selected company is a textile producer which exportstheir products from Istanbul to European countries. 5S principles were applied toreduce lead times and to increase productivity. Final results show that ProductionLead Time (PLT) decreased 14.5 days to 5.2 days by applying lean techniques.
