Yücel, Ilhami; Özlok, Kasim Kagan; Kaya, Yasin; Çelik, Omer
This study examines the mediating role of role ambiguity and the moderating effect of gender on the relationship between work overload and turnover intention. Using a quantitative approach, the study investigated the relationships among work overload, role ambiguity and turnover intention. Data collected from 408 participants working in chain supermarkets in T & uuml;rkiye were analyzed using SPSS 27 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, USA), AMOS 24 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, USA) and the PROCESS macro. While work overload was positively related to turnover intention, role ambiguity mediated this relationship. Gender also played a moderating role in these relationships. This study is among the few to examine the role of gender in the relationship between work overload and turnover intention. In addition, it proposes a new analytical framework that incorporates a gender perspective into the model through an examination of the role of role ambiguity in this relationship.

Yavuz, Selahattin; Aka, Salih
Food manufacturing sectors have sensitive and complex production processes due to the use of perishable products, labor-intensive production infrastructure, and hygiene requirements. Factors threatening occupational health and safety, such as chemicals used to reduce contamination and infection risks during product preparation, processing, and handling, irregular working environments, the use of cutting mechanical tools, and insufficient protective equipment, can cause disruptions to production schedules and imbalances in production. Non-ergonomic work arrangements reduce overall production performance, while work accidents resulting from occupational health and safety risks disrupt workforce continuity. In manufacturing environments where occupational health and safety risks are high, decreased capacity utilization rates, production plan revisions, and order delays become inevitable. This study aims to identify occupational health and safety risk factors that may lead to revisions in production management plans in food manufacturing and to reveal the relationship between these risk factors. In this study, occupational health and safety factors are examined from the perspective of production and ergonomics, and the cause-and-effect relationship between the factors is investigated. Considering the qualitative and uncertain nature of the factors, fuzzy DEMATEL was chosen as the analysis method. The findings indicate that risks arising from protective equipment shortages and a disorganized workplace have direct impacts on the emergence of all other risks.

Akkas, Ibrahim; Çapar, Elif; Çetintas, Ahmet; Ersoy, Ersan; Kilig, Metin; Çetinkaya, Sahin
Delirium in older adults can be shaped by their experiences of social isolation and a reduction in pleasure-oriented eating habits. When elderly individuals become disconnected from their social environment, this separation can trigger both psychological and biological changes that influence their overall well-being. The aging process entails multidimensional changes in individuals' biological, psychological, and social functioning. The aim of this study is to examine the relationships between levels of delirium and social exclusion and hedonic eating behaviors among individuals aged 65 years and older. In line with its cross-sectional design, the study avoids causal inferences and addresses the relationships between variables within a descriptive and correlational framework. This study aims to explore how strongly social isolation and reduced pleasure-driven eating behaviors relate to the development of delirium in elderly individuals living in institutional care settings. This descriptive research was carried out in In 2025 Erzincan and involved older individuals living in the 100th Year Atat & uuml;rk Nursing Home, the Refahiye Elderly Care Center, and the Kemah Nursing Home. Aka, Salih
Assembly line balancing models aim at minimizing cycle time, and the number of stations becomes quite complex with precedence relations and various resource constraints. Various heuristic and fuzzy-based methods are used to ease the solution in such assembly line balancing models. This study proposes a two-stage model that simultaneously minimizes cycle time and the number of stations for a real-life case. The paper shows how to formulate a mixed integer non-linear programming model for an assembly line balancing problem. After the constraints on production size and task durations are fuzzy transformed, the model acquires new constraints. In the new model, the α coefficient takes values in the range [0,1], bringing the fuzzy parameters closer to the lower or upper range. In cases where uncertain task duration and production size parameters are fuzzy, better results are achieved with the fuzzy model than the basic model. The fuzzy model provides to expand value range for parameters and evaluates different solution alternatives. In the study, the reflection of the value change in the parameters on the solution was examined with the experimental data set created in line with 112 different α coefficients. One-way ANOVA test was used to understand whether the fuzzy parameter values created a significant difference in the solution. The proposed model improves the solution quality through scenarios, provides a 7% saving for the total duration of the tasks at the stations within a cycle time and suggests a more suitable station layout for efficient production.

Güney, tiler Sigeze; Kaya, Zeynep; Balli, Esra
This study investigates the socioeconomic determinants of poverty in Turkey by incorporating household charac teristics with regional indicators using 2024 data using a multilevel mixed effects model. Relative poverty, defined as 60% of the median equivalised household disposable income, serves as the dependent variable. Considering the hierarchical structure of the data, the determinants of poverty status were examined employing a two level generalised mixed effect logistic regression model, accounting for the nesting of households within NUTS 2 regions. The findings reveal that poverty cannot be explained solely by householdlevelvulnerabilities; the regional economic environment also significantly shapes poverty outcomes. Also, education is determined as the most security measure; having a university degree decreases poverty risk by 42.6%. Across regions, resources must be directed towards GDP growth and infrastructure to mitigate spatial disparities by integrating household level microdata with regional macro indicators. This study provides a comprehensive understanding of the spatial and key structural factors behind poverty in Turkey. Policymakers should prioritise opportunities to pursue higher education and vocational training at the household level.

Ulke Simdi, Refika; Gedik, Ozlem; Kara (Sivuk), Derya
PurposeThis study investigated the relationships among job satisfaction, emotional exhaustion, and turnover intention among nurses.Design/methodology/approachThe research was conducted with a sample of 356 nurses employed at a university hospital and examined the moderating roles of demographic variables, including age, marital status, experience at the hospital, and working time in the profession. The data collection tool was organized into two main sections. The first section focused on gathering socio-demographic information, including gender, age, marital status, experience at the hospital, and working time in the profession. The second section comprised validated scales used to measure the study variables. Data analysis was conducted using statistical software. Descriptive statistics were first employed to examine the demographic characteristics of the sample. To test the moderating effects of demographic variables on the relationship between emotional exhaustion and job satisfaction, the PROCESS Macro was utilized. For the moderation analysis, demographic variables such as age, marital status, hospital experience, and professional tenure were utilized. Other variables, including gender and educational status, were used solely for descriptive statistics.FindingsThe findings indicated that experience at the hospital moderated the relationship between job satisfaction and turnover intention, while age, marital status, and working time in the profession moderated the relationship between emotional exhaustion and job satisfaction. Given the critical importance of sustainable human resources in the healthcare sector, these results offer valuable insights for healthcare administrators and policymakers aiming to enhance nurse retention and improve workforce stability.Research limitations/implicationsGiven the critical importance of sustainable human resources in the healthcare sector, these results offer valuable insights for healthcare administrators and policymakers aiming to enhance nurse retention and improve workforce stability. The fact that the study was conducted at a single center in Turkey constitutes a limitation.Practical implicationsThis study offers guidance for healthcare institutions aiming to improve nurse retention. Emotional exhaustion reduces job satisfaction and increases turnover intention, especially among early- and mid-career nurses. Hospitals can reduce turnover through burnout-prevention strategies such as supportive supervision, mentorship, flexible scheduling, and improved staffing and reward systems. The identification of key demographic moderators (e.g. age, experience, marital status) enables institutions to tailor interventions - for example, career-development and coping-skills programs for younger nurses and work-family balance support for mid-career/married nurses.Social implicationsNurse burnout and turnover undermine the quality, safety, and accessibility of patient care. By underscoring the importance of supporting nurses' well-being, this study contributes to public discussions on strengthening healthcare systems. Reducing turnover can enhance patient outcomes, public trust, and system resilience-particularly important during public health crises.Originality/valueIn this study, a contribution to the literature was made by testing the validity of the Conservation of Resources Theory while determining the relationships among job satisfaction, burnout, and turnover intention. Furthermore, the study may provide guidance to healthcare administrators and policymakers in understanding the factors that contribute to workforce retention among nurses.
RDL Kalıcı Kaydıİncele - ArticleYalnız künye2026Emotional and psychological drivers of compulsive shopping: a qualitative exploration of triggers and coping mechanisms
Akın, Mustafa Seref
Background: Compulsive shopping is often driven by emotional and psychological factors that create a cyclical pattern of temporary relief followed by dissatisfaction. Emotional triggers such as sadness, loneliness, grief, frustration, anger, and nostalgia, as well as relational failures, unmet desires, and attempts to recapture a past identity, are believed to play a significant role in the development and persistence of compulsive shopping behaviors. Method: This study employed a qualitative research design, using in-depth interviews with participants who identified as compulsive shoppers. The interviews explored emotional and psychological triggers, the cyclical nature of compulsive buying behaviors, and coping mechanisms employed to manage these tendencies. Themes and patterns in participants’ narratives were analyzed to identify emotional drivers and potential strategies for intervention. Results: Participants reported using shopping as a temporary escape from emotional pain, such as sadness, loneliness, or grief, which often provided fleeting relief but was quickly followed by regret and dissatisfaction. Emotional dissatisfaction resulting from unmet shopping expectations, relational breakdowns, and attempts to preserve a past identity further perpetuated compulsive shopping cycles. Identified coping strategies included setting financial boundaries, engaging in therapy, building social connections, and practicing mindful consumption, which provided avenues for managing emotional triggers and reducing compulsive buying behaviors. Conclusion: This study underscores the significant role of emotional and psychological factors in compulsive shopping behaviors and highlights the cyclical nature of emotional triggers and dissatisfaction that sustains these patterns.
RDL Kalıcı Kaydıİncele - ArticleYalnız künye2026Assessment of cultural competence levels of healthcare professionals: a study in a university hospital with a health tourism authorisation certificate
Gedik, Özlem; Şimdi, Refika Ülke; Kara, Derya
This study aims to evaluate the cultural competence levels of healthcare professionals working in a university hospital authorised for health tourism, where patients from different cultures are concentrated. The research concluded that the cultural competence of healthcare professionals showed significant differences according to demographic characteristics, and characteristics related to cultural interest, curiosity, and experience. Cultural sensitivity had a partial mediating effect in the relationship between cultural knowledge and cultural skills. In the context of health tourism, possessing cultural knowledge alone is not sufficient for healthcare professionals to establish effective and trust-based communication with patients from different countries and cultural backgrounds. When this knowledge is combined with cultural sensitivity, it can be transformed into cultural skills, which in turn enhances patient satisfaction and improves the quality of healthcare services. It is crucial to re-evaluate global health service delivery with a knowledge-based approach to culture and to shape the understanding of solutions to existing or potential problems. In terms of achieving cultural competency, in-service training for staff could be a valuable recommendation for hospital management and contributing to the development of health tourism.
