BACKGROUND We investigated the individual and combined effects of magnesium sulphate, which is an N-Methyl-D aspartate receptor antagonist (NMDA), and z-LEHD-FMK, which is a caspase 9 inhibitor, on the genesis of secondary injury in a rat spinal cord injury model. We aimed to minimize the effects of secondary injury in spinal cord trauma by choosing these two agents which served to block the two major mechanisms of cell loss, apoptosis and necrosis. METHODS The drugs were given to the subjects according to their groups, either in singular or combined fashion. For motor examination, the subjects were kept under close clinical evaluation for five days. Histopathological examination and the emerging spinal cord samples were prepared with haematoxylene-eosin and Tunel techniques. RESULTS A statistically significant difference in favor of the treatment groups has been found between the treatment and control groups in terms of histological data. However, there was no difference in the evaluation of motor examination between trauma and treatment groups. CONCLUSION We have found no difference between the individual and combined uses of MgSO4 and z-LEHD-FMK in the prevention of secondary injury; however, there were better histological results in the treatment groups compared to trauma and control groups which gives us hope for future investigations.

The cardiovascular system and the biochemistry of grafts used in heart surgery

Aydin, Suna; Aydin, Suleyman; Eren, Mehmet Nesimi; Sahin, Ibrahim; Yilmaz, Musa; Kalayci, Mehmet; Gungor, Orhan

Blood is pumped into the cardiac muscle through arteries called the coronary arteries. Over time, the accumulation of cholesterol, coagulation factors, and cells on the walls of these arteries causes the walls to thicken and lose their elasticity, resulting in the development of atherosclerosis. When the blood supply of the heart is diminished by atherosclerosis, it can be restored by bypass surgery, in which atherosclerosis-free vein and/or artery grafts taken from another area of the body are used to replace the atherosclerotic vessels. These biological grafts used in surgery differ in biochemical composition and long-term patency. Although the great saphenous vein (GSV) has been the most popular graft material in revascularization for years, it has recently been superseded by the internal mammarian artery (IMA), which has a lower incidence of recurrence of atherosclerosis. The aim of the present review is briefly to address the structure of the cardiovascular system and blood vessels, and then, in the light recent data, to present the biochemical compositions and individual advantages of the graft materials used to restore an impaired blood supply to the heart.

Determination of salmonella serotypes by conventional and molecular methods; [Salmonella serotiplerinin konvansiyonel ve moleküler yöntemler ile belirlenmesi]

Dalyan Cilo, Burcu; Karakeçili, Faruk; Güleşen, Revasiye; Levent, Belkis; Özakin, Cüneyt; Gedikočlu, Suna

Determination of Salmonella enterica serotypes is crutial for epidemiological studies. Salmonella serotypes are defined on the basis of somatic (O) and flagellar (H) antigens, both of which are present in the cell wall of Salmonella. The aim of this study was to compare the results of molecular serotyping obtained by multiplex polymerase chain reaction (mPCR) with conventional serotyping results. Conventional serotyping has been performed in Ministry of Health Refik Saydam Hygiene Center as part of the National Laboratory of Enteric Pathogenes Surveillance Network (UEPLA). A total of 100 Salmonella strains, thay comprise 14 different serotypes by the reference laboratory have been investigated by using specific primers for Salmonella serogroups (A, B, CI, D and E) and Vi antigen gene clusters via mPCR method. Serotypes have been determined by applying four sequential mPCR targeting the fliC and fliB genes encoding the H1 antigens (H1: a, -b, -d, -g,m, -i, -r, -z10) and H2 antigen complexes (H2: 1,2, -1,5, -1,6, -1,7 and H: enx, enz15). The results of mPCR showed 100% consistency with the serogroups determined by the conventional method. Both sensitivity and specificity of mPCR according to each serogroups were found to be 100%. Results of serotyping that have been determined with the molecular antigenic formula showed accurate results for 2 (2%), probable results for 91 (91 %) and incomplete formula for 7 (7%) isolates. Molecular serotyping results of the most common isolated Salmonella serotypes of which S. Enteritidis, S. Typhimurium and S. Paratyphi from clinical microbiology laboratories have been determined as probable results. Antigenic formula of these serotypes that detected using mPCR were considered to be consistent with the results of conventional serotyping when interpreted with epidemiologic data. The sensitivity of mPCR to identify S. Typhi which have been determined as accurate result with molecular serotyping was 100% for serogrouping and serotyping. Multiplex PCR is cheaper and faster for the serotyping of strains isolated in clinical laboratories, compared to the conventional methods. However since it is not possible to detect all serotypes by using molecular typing, this technique can not be currently considered as an alternative for conventional serotyping. Nevertheless molecular typing could be beneficial in providing the preliminary results earlier.

The mean platelet volume and atherogenic index of plasma in nondipper normotensive individuals compared to dippers

Yildiz, Gürsel; Hür, Ender; Özçiçek, Adalet; Candan, Ferhan; Kayatas, Mansur

Mean platelet volume (MPV) is a determinant of platelet activation. Atherogenic index of plasma (AIP), which is defined as the logarithm of the ratio of plasma level of triglycerides to the level of high-density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol (log[TG/HDL-C]), has recently been used as a marker of atherogenicity. This study included 104 normotensive individuals. Mean platelet volume and AIP were measured in all patients. Nondipper individuals (8.6 ± 0.9 fL, 0.3 ± 0.2) demonstrated higher values of MPV and AIP compared with dippers (7.9 ± 1.1 fL, 0.1 ± 0.2) (P < .001 and < .001, respectively). Mean platelet volume and AIP have a positive correlation with insufficient decline in nocturnal blood pressure.

Introduction: Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) is the true visceral fat depot of the heart. The relationship between coronary artery disease and EAT was shown in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients. One of the established risk factor in this population is dyslipidemia. We aimed to determine the relationship between atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) and EAT in ESRD patients. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study involving 76 ESRD patients receiving PD or HD for ≥6 months and 42 healthy subjects. EAT was measured by using an electrocardiogram-gated 64-multidetector computed tomography (MDCT). Atherogenic index of plasma was calculated as the logarithmically transformed ratio of the serum trigliseride to HDL-cholesterol. Results: The etiology of ESRD patients was diabetic nephropathy (n = 16), chronic glomerulonephritis (n = 10), hypertensive nephropathy (n = 23), polycystic kidney disease (n = 7), nephrolithiasis (n = 5) and unknown (n = 15). There were no differences with respect to the following variables between ESRD patients and healthy subjects: age; sex; BMI; predialysis levels of DBP; serum levels of albumin, HDL-cholesterol and hemoglobin. However, ESRD patients had higher serum levels of trigliseride, hs-CRP and AIP when compared to healthy subjects. There was a statistically significant relationship between EAT, BMI and AIP in ESRD patients (r = 0.42, p < 0.001 and r = 0.25, p = 0.028, respectively). The stepwise linear regression analysis revealed that age, as well as BMI were independent predictors of EAT. Conclusion: We found a relationship between EAT as defined by MDCT and AIP in ESRD patients. Further clinical and experimental studies are needed.

Yildirim, Arzu; Hacihasanoǧlu Aşilar, Rabia; Karakurt, Papatya

Aims and objectives: This study was conducted to examine the effect of psychosocial education provided to mothers with intellectually disabled children on the risk of depression and perception of family functioning in those mothers. Background: Families with intellectually disabled children need encouragement, support and training to more actively participate in their children's education and to positively affect their children's growth and development. Design: Randomised controlled study. Methods: The study included the mothers of 75 intellectually disabled children (40 intervention, 35 control). The mothers in the intervention group who participated in a routine program at private education and rehabilitation centres attended four different psychosocial educational sessions. Sessions were conducted once a week for four weeks and lasted 120 minutes. The control group attended only the routine program of the private education and rehabilitation centre. Results: Our study results showed that after completion of the educational program, there was a greater decrease in the risk for depression in the intervention group when compared to the control group, and the former perceived their family functions better. These differences were statistically significant (p < 0·001). Conclusions: The education given by nurses to mothers who have children with intellectual disabilities may be effective in reducing the risk for depression and in increasing the perception of healthy family functioning. Relevance to clinical practice: Psychosocial nursing education program can contribute to the use of evidence-based education strategies in nursing practice to improve the mental health for mothers with intellectually disabled children.

Candida vaginitis during contraceptive use: The influence of methods, antifungal susceptibility and virulence patterns

    Güzel, A.B.; Kucukgoz-Gulec, U.; Aydin, M.; Gümral, R.; Kalkanci, A.; Ilkit, M.

No consensus exists about whether contraceptives cause an increased risk of vaginitis, including vulvovaginal candidosis (VVC). We investigated 495 women (252 who used contraceptives; 243 who did not) for the presence of VVC. Antifungal susceptibility testing was performed for five antifungal agents and for boric acid, and three virulence factors were also examined. We recovered 129 (26.1%) monofungal populations from vaginal samples of women with acute VVC (AVVC, n = 18), symptomatic recurrent VVC (RVVC, n = 22) and asymptomatic RVVC (n = 28), as well as of other contraceptive users who carried Candida in their vaginas (n = 61). It is important to note that the women who had VVC used the same contraceptive methods (p > 0.05). Candida albicans was the most common species isolated (45%), followed by C. glabrata (40.3%). Most of the vaginal yeast isolates exhibited low minimum inhibitory concentration levels for the five antifungals tested. However, this was not the case for boric acid. In addition, the yeast fungi that was derived from the AVVC and RVVC patients showed higher amounts of haemolytic activity than the yeast fungi found among the controls (p < 0.05). The use of contraception does not predispose women to VVC (p > 0.05). Also, both host- and organism-related factors were required to achieve optimal clinical treatment for VVC.

Arasoǧlu, Tülin; Güllüce, Medine; Özkan, Hakan; Adigüzel, Ahmet; Şahin, Fikrettin

Aim: In this study, we designed and used 2 different type-specific polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods for the detection of Brucella abortus. Materials and methods: There were 2 different primer sets (B4/B5 and AF/AR) selected and used for the amplification of 2 different genes that are present in all biovars of Brucella species, including bcsp31, encoding 31-kDa immunogenic cell surface proteins, and omp25, which is known to be one of the virulence factors encoding outer membrane proteins of 26-23 kDa. Results: The results showed that 273 (81.7%) and 317 (94.9%) out of 334 milk samples were positive for brucellosis, as detected by either both or one of the primer sets used in the present study, respectively. The detection limit of PCR assays for Brucella in milk samples was determined as 5 pg DNA for both of the primer sets. Conclusion: These results suggest that the use of the specific PCR assay with the primer sets used in the study is a rapid, reliable, and accurate technique in comparison to traditional and conventional methods for the detection and diagnosis of Brucella spp. in milk samples.

Changing surgical approaches for laparoscopic adrenalectomy: Single-surgeon data of a 6-year experience

Arslan, Murat; Akin, Yigit; Ates, Mutlu; Degirmenci, Tansu; Kozacioglu, Zafer; Ors, Bumin; Gunlusoy, Bulent

Aim: To evaluate outcomes of laparoscopic adrenalectomy (LA) and laparoendoscopic single-site surgery (LESS) for adrenal masses in the light of changing laparoscopic surgical techniques. Materials and Methods: Seventy-three patients were analyzed retrospectively. There were 2 groups; group 1 included patients who had conventional transperitoneal LA and transperitoneal LESS, and group 2 included patients who had lateral retroperitoneal LA, retroperitoneal LA in prone position, and retroperitoneal LESS. Demographic data, urine 3-methoxy-4-hydroxymandelic acid, normetanephrine, epinephrine, serum cortisol, aldosterone, adrenocorticotropic hormone, American Society of Anesthesiologists score, side and size of mass, conversion to open surgery, complications, estimated blood loss, operation time, pathological results were recorded and analyzed. Results: There was no difference in demographic data and serum parameters between both groups. Tumor size, estimated blood loss, operation time, transfusion rate and hospital stay were less for group 2 (p < 0.05, p = 0.0001). However, the complication rate was similar in both groups; in retroperitoneal prone position, the complication rate was less than for other surgical approaches, but statistically significant results could not be assessed. Conclusions: Even if the diameter of adrenal mass is larger than 6 cm, LA may be considered as the gold standard. The retroperitoneal approach especially in prone position may be a promising treatment method in the near future for adrenalectomy in selected patients.

Relationship between β -catenin expression and prognostic parameters of colorectal carcinomas; [β-catenin ekspresyonunun kolorektal karsinomlarda prognostik parametreler ile ilişkisi]

Peker, Kemal; Başoǧlu, Mahmut; Gürsan, Nesrin

Objective: Colorectal carcinomas are the most frequent tumors of the gastrointestinal tract. β-catenin, which is related to cadherins, is a cytoplasmic protein responsible for intercellular adhesion. It is also an important component in the Wnt signal pathway. Recent studies have shown structural alterations in the APC gene and axin in patients with colorectal carcinoma, along with β-catenin. We aimed to compare β-catenin expression, which is a prognostic factor itself, with other prognostic parameters. Material and Method: A total of 70 patients who had surgical intervention for colorectal malignancies between January 1994 and December 2003 were included in the study. Fifty-nine of the patients (84.3%) were male, 11 of the patients (15.7%) were female; their ages varied between 24 and 82 (mean 60.3 ±15.2) years. Paraf in blocks were immunohistochemically stained for β-catenin. The number of stained cell nuclei was assessed according to the stage of disease using the TNM classification, histological grade, lymphatic invasion, vascular invasion and tumor's local invasion. Results: When groups constituted according to tumor histologic grade were compared for prognostic parameters in terms of stain density for β-catenin and number of stained cell nuclei, stain density was mild (+) and the number of stained nuclei was smaller in well-differentiated groups while stain density was strong (+++) and the number of stained nuclei was higher in poorly differentiated groups. There was a relation between β-catenin expression and dif erentiation grade, lymph node metastasis, stage and tumor size but not with vascular invasion. Conclusion: These data indicate that β- catenin, with functions in cell homeostasis and relations with the APC gene, has a substantial role in colorectal carcinogenesis.

This study aims to investigate the results of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgeries in terms of the relation of postoperative atrial fibrillation, coronary vasculature, and the nature and extent of coronary artery disease. Methods: Between January 2011 and May 2011, 94 consecutive CABG patients (68 males, 26 females; mean age 61.4±10.9 years; range 38 to 87 years) who were operated in our clinic were enrolled in this prospective observational study. Logistic regressionanalysis was performed for the factors influencing the occurrence of postoperative atrial fibrillation. The perioperative parameters (Gensini score, Rentrop score, number of revascularized vessels, dominant coronary artery system, revascularization of the dominant coronary artery system, left main coronary artery disease, clinical status on admission, left ventricular dysfunction, and left atrium diameter) were analyzed as independent variables. Results: Twenty-three patients (24.5%) developed perioperative atrial fibrillation. Twenty patients returned to normal sinus rhythm with amiodarone therapy. In-hospital mortality was observed in three patients (3.2%). There was no statistically significant difference in mortality rates among the patients with and without atrial fibrillation. Left ventricular dysfunction (p=0.034) and left main coronary artery disease (p=0.019) were found to be significantly associated with the occurrence of postoperative atrial fibrillation. The rate of renal complications (p=0.030) and the need for sternal revision surgery (p=0.003) were not significantly different between both groups. Conclusion: Postoperative atrial fibrillation is a frequently encountered complication of cardiac surgery. The left ventricular dysfunction is a significant risk factor for postoperative occurrence of atrial fibrillation. Although no significant association between coronary vasculature and atrial fibrillation, the left main coronary artery disease is a serious risk factor for postoperative atrial fibrillation.

Concentrations of preptin, salusins and hepcidins in plasma and milk of lactating women with or without gestational diabetes mellitus

Aydin, Suleyman; Celik, Onder; Gurates, Bilgin; Sahin, Ibrahim; Ulas, Mustafa; Yilmaz, Musa; Kalayci, Mehmet; Kuloglu, Tuncay; Catak, Zekiye; Aksoy, Aziz

This study was undertaken to ascertain whether human milk contains preptin, salusin-alpha (salusin-α) and -beta (salusin-β) and pro-hepcidin and hepcidin-25, and whether there are relationships between plasma and milk preptin, salusin-α and -β and pro-hepcidin and hepcidin-25 concentrations in lactating mothers with and without gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Blood was obtained from non-lactating women (n = 12), non-diabetic lactating women (n = 12), and GDM lactating women (n = 12). Colostrum, transitional milk, and mature milk samples were collected just before suckling from healthy and GDM lactating women. Peptides concentrations were determined by ELISA and EIA. Mammary gland tissues were screened immunohistochemically for these peptides. Women with GDM had significantly higher plasma and colostum preptin concentrations than healthy lactating women during the colostral and transitional milk period. Salusin-alpha and -beta levels in milk and plasma were lower in women with GDM. Salusin-α and -β were significantly lower in both plasma and colostrums of GDM than of healthy lactating women. Women with GDM had significantly higher colostum prohepcidin and hepcidin-25 concentrations than healthy lactating women during the colostral period. Plasma prohepcidin was also higher in women with GDM than in healthy lactating women during the colostral period, but plasma prohepcidin and hepcidin-25 levels decreased during mature milk period. Transitional milk pro-hepcidin and hepcidin-25 levels in women with GDM were higher than in healthy lactating women. All these results revealed that the mammary gland produces those peptides, which were present in milk at levels correlating with plasma concentrations.

The impact of diabetes mellitus on penile length in men undergoing inflatable penile prosthesis implantation; [Diabetes mellitusun şişirilebilir penil protez uygulanan erkeklerdeki penis boyu üzerine etkisi]

Akin, Yiǧit; Fatih Şahiner, Ilker; Usta, Mustafa Faruk

Objective: To evaluate the changing cavernosal length of patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) and organic erectile dysfunction (ED) who were treated with inflatable, three-piece penile prostheses, a current surgical treatment option in our clinic, over the course of 12 years. Materials and methods: Between April 2000 and December 2012, we retrospectively investigated data from patients who were diagnosed with organic ED and performed penile prosthesis implantation (PPI). Of the 239 patients, 235 patients were included in the study. Four patients who were operated on for transsexuality were excluded from the study. All patients were divided into two groups; group 1 included patients with DM, and group 2 included patients without DM. Data, including age, body mass index (BMI) in kg/ m2, operation history, comorbidities, International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) questionnaire results, combined intracavernous injection and stimulation (CIS) test results, the measured length of the corpus cavernosum while implanting the penile prosthesis, complications, operation time, mean hospital stay, and the satisfaction of the patient and partner, were recorded. Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests were used for statistical analysis. A p-value of <0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. Results: The mean age was 57.9±10.5 years. In the study, 65 patients with DM, 51 patients who underwent radical pelvic surgery, 21 with only additional disease hypertension (HT), 28 with combined DM and HT, 5 with hyperlipidemia, 4 with DM and radical pelvic surgery, and 62 without any additional comorbidity were identified. The mean measured length of the corpus cavernosum was 17.277±0.1509 cm in group 1 and 17.289±0.1598 cm in group 2 (p<0.05). Additionally, the other parameters, including age, operation time, and the satisfaction of the patient and partner, were not different between these groups (p>0.05). Conclusion: The length of the corpus cavernosum and the destruction of cavernosal tissues do not depend only on DM. We conclude that these features may have multifactorial causes.

Effect of anxiety and depression on self-care agency and quality of life in hospitalized patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: A questionnaire survey

Yildirim, Arzu; Hacihasanoǧlu Aşilar, Rabia; Bakar, Nihal; Demir, Nilay

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) affects the lives of individuals in a number of ways; it causes an increase in the need for help and support and a decline in self-care agency and quality of life. This research has been conducted in patients with COPD hospitalized in the Pulmonary Department of Erzincan State Hospital in the eastern Turkey to examine the effect of anxiety and depression on self-care agency and quality of life (n=135). The results showed that 69.6% and 85.6% of the patients were at risk for anxiety and depression, respectively, and that the mean scores of self-care agency and quality of life decreased as the mean scores of anxiety and depression increased. It was also established that the mean score of the quality of life increased as the mean score of self-care agency went up. It could be concluded that the majority of the patients are at risk for anxiety and depression and that presence of anxiety or depression has a negative effect on the self-care agency and the quality of life. The recognition and treatment of depression and anxiety in patients with COPD provide significant improvements in self-care agency and quality of life of patients.

Erenler, Ali Kemal; Yardan, Turker; Baydin, Ahmet; Gunay, Murat; Amanvermez, Ramazan

Background The aim of this study was to investigate the role of serum heart-type fatty acid-binding protein (H-FABP) in the evaluation of patients with carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Methods Forty patients with acute CO poisoning admitted to the emergency department and 15 healthy adults as the control group were included in the study. Serum H-FABP levels of patients were studied on admission and at the 6th, 12th, and 18th hours. Patients were divided into 3 groups according to clinical severity as mild, moderate, and severe. Patients were also divided into 2 groups according to treatment with hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) or normobaric oxygen. Results Serum H-FABP levels of the patients were higher than those of the control group. There was a negative correlation between H-FABP levels and Glasgow Coma Scale score on admission. Heart-type fatty acid-binding protein levels were significantly higher in patients in the severe compared with mild group. Heart-type fatty acid-binding protein levels in patients treated with HBO were significantly higher than in those treated with normobaric oxygen. The cutoff value of serum H-FABP as an indicator for HBO treatment was determined as 1.5 ng/mL or higher, with a sensitivity of 85.7% and specificity of 69.7%. Serial measurement revealed that H-FABP level peaked at the sixth hour and reduced over time but remained higher than in the control group at the 18th hour. Conclusion Heart-type fatty acid-binding protein may be a promising novel biomarker in the evaluation of clinical severity and in the selection of patients for HBO therapy in acute CO poisoning.

Molecular characterization of measles viruses in Turkey (2010-2011): First report of genotype D9 involved in an outbreak in 2011

Kalaycioglu, Atila T.; Baykal, Atakan; Guldemir, Dilek; Bakkaloglu, Zekiye; Korukluoglu, Gulay; Coskun, Aslihan; Torunoglu, Mehmet Ali; Ertek, Mustafa; Durmaz, Riza

Genetic characterization of measles viruses (MVs) combined with acquisition of epidemiologic information is essential for measles surveillance programs used in determining transmission pathways. This study describes the molecular characterization of 26 MV strains (3 from 2010, 23 from 2011) obtained from urine or throat swabs harvested from patients in Turkey. MV RNA samples (n=26) were subjected to sequence analysis of 450 nucleotides comprising the most variable C-terminal region of the nucleoprotein (N) gene. Phylogenetic analysis revealed 20 strains from 2011 belonged to genotype D9, 3 to D4, 2 strains from 2010 to genotype D4 and 1 to genotype B3. This study represents the first report describing the involvement of MV genotype D9 in an outbreak in Turkey. The sequence of the majority of genotype D9 strains was identical to those identified in Russia, Malaysia, Japan, and the UK. Despite lack of sufficient epidemiologic information, the presence of variants observed following phylogenetic analysis suggested that exposure to genotype D9 might have occurred due to importation more than once. Phylogenetic analysis of five genotype D4 strains revealed the presence of four variants. Epidemiological information and phylogenetic analysis suggested that three genotype D4 strains and one genotype B3 strain were associated with importation. This study suggests the presence of pockets of unimmunized individuals making Turkey susceptible to outbreaks. Continuing molecular surveillance of measles strains in Turkey is essential as a means of acquiring epidemiologic information to define viral transmission patterns and determine the effectiveness of measles vaccination programs designed to eliminate this virus. Aim: To compare the outcomes of laparoscopic (LRCP) and open radical cystoprostatectomy (ORCP) with orthotopic urinary diversion for muscle-invasive organ-confined bladder cancer by a single surgeon. Patients and Methods: Prospectively documented 15 LRCP and 15 ORCP patients, followed for at least 3 years, were included in our study. The demographic parameters of patients, preoperative radiologic staging, previous operations, surgical outcomes, complications, oncologic results and intermediate-term follow-up, postoperative chemotherapy and follow-up periods were recorded and evaluated. Results: The mean oncologic follow-up was 3 years. Transfusion rate, estimated blood loss, oral intake and narcotic analgesic requirement were statistically less in the LRCP group (p < 0.05). However, operation time and hospital stay were similar in both groups. The complication rates were not significantly different between the two groups. The mean number of dissected lymph nodes was 20.0 ± 1.7 in the ORCP and 22.6 ± 2.0 in the LRCP group. One patient in each group had a margin positive for bladder cancer. Conclusions: The laparoscopic approach may be feasible for muscle-invasive organ-confined bladder cancer. Furthermore, LRCP provides less blood loss, early oral intake and postoperative pain management. Additionally, continence and sexual function may be provided by LRCP as with ORCP.
