Aydin Kahraman, Handan
Background: The integration of theoretical knowledge with psychomotor skill development plays a critical role in enabling nursing students to achieve clinical competence. In laboratory-based training, the use of innovative, student- centered, and interactive instructional strategies is essential for promoting effective learning. The video-assisted flipped learning approach enhances students’ active engagement in the learning process and provides significant advantages in the acquisition of clinical skills. Objective: This study aimed to examine the effect of a video-assisted flipped learning model on nursing students’ medication administration laboratory skill levels. Methods: This randomized controlled experimental study was conducted in the nursing department of a public university. The sample consisted of 50 first-year nursing students, with 25 assigned to the intervention group and 25 to the control group. Educational content related to medication administration was delivered to the intervention group using a video-assisted flipped learning model, while traditional teaching methods were applied to the control group. Data were collected using a Student Information Form and standardized Skill Checklists. Group comparisons were performed using descriptive statistics, Pearson chi-square, Mann–Whitney U, and Kruskal–W allis tests. Results: A statistically significant difference was found between the skill performance scores of the intervention and control groups after the training (p < .001). The intervention group achieved a higher mean skill score (82.23±9.19) compared with the control group (75.52±13.24). These findings indicate that students in the intervention group demonstrated significantly greater psychomotor competence than those taught through traditional methods (t = 5.525; p < .001). Conclusion: The video-assisted flipped learning model is an effective instructional strategy for improving nursing students’ medication administration laboratory skills. This approach enhances students’ learning readiness, promotes active participation in skill-based activities, and strengthens long-term learning retention. Based on these findings, the integration and wider implementation of flipped learning–based digital instructional materials in nursing education programs are recommended.

RDL Kalıcı Kaydıİncele - ArticleYalnız künye2026Association between environmental literacy and carbon footprint awareness among future healthcare professionals
Aydın Kahraman, Handan; Bozcu Kartal, Ebru
Climate change poses significant threats to global health, necessitating a healthcare workforce equipped to handle these challenges. This study aimed to evaluate the level of environmental literacy among nursing students and to determine its predictive impact on their carbon footprint awareness. This descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted with 402 undergraduate nursing students at a public university in eastern Türkiye. Data were collected using a Personal Information Form, the Environmental Literacy Scale for Adults (ELSA) to assess environmental consciousness, concern, and awareness, and the Carbon Footprint Awareness Scale (CFAS) to measure climate-conscious daily behaviors. Participants demonstrated high environmental literacy (mean ELSA score: 79.01 ± 10.35) and substantial awareness (mean CFAS score: 68.19 ± 9.69). A strong, positive correlation existed between environmental literacy and carbon footprint awareness (r = 0.694; p < 0.001). Regression analysis indicated that environmental literacy is a significant predictor, explaining 48% of the variance in carbon footprint awareness (R2=0.480; F = 371.608; p < 0.001). Environmental literacy strongly predicts carbon footprint awareness. Integrating comprehensive planetary health and environmental literacy strategies into nursing curricula is essential to foster a generation of nurses conscious of their carbon footprint and capable of leading sustainable healthcare practices.

Aras Doğan, Şenay; Kasımoğlu, Necla; Oluç, Tuğba
Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between parents' e-health literacy and attitudes toward childhood vaccination. Design: A descriptive-correlational study. Sample: The study included 396 parents of children aged 0 to 72 months, recruited between May and December 2022. Measurements: Data were collected using the Demographic Information Form, the E-Health Literacy Scale (E-HLS), and the Caregiver Vaccination Attitudes Scale (CVAS). Analyses were performed using SPSS (version 24). Results: The mean age of the parents was 30.13 ± 5.22 years. E-HLS scores differed significantly by education level (F = 6.914, p < 0.001, η2 = 0.034), with higher scores among university-educated parents (29.72 ± 5.99) compared to those with secondary (26.86 ± 6.64) or primary education (27.48 ± 5.98). Economic status also showed significant differences in E-HLS (KW = 6.982, p = 0.03, ε2 = 0.012); parents with good economic status (29.54 ± 5.89) scored higher than those with poor status (26.35 ± 4.32). A statistically significant but weak positive correlation was found between CVAS and E-HLS (r = 0.172, p < 0.001), indicating a small effect size. Conclusions: This study showed that parents with higher e-health literacy tend to have more positive attitudes toward childhood vaccination. However, the relationship between these two variables was weak, suggesting only a limited association between e-health literacy and vaccination attitudes. In addition, parents with higher education and better economic status had higher e-health literacy scores. Due to the weak correlation observed, it is important for nurses to understand that increasing e-health literacy alone is unlikely to produce significant improvements in parental vaccination attitudes. Despite the weak correlation, these results may help guide future research exploring the broader context of vaccine attitudes among parents.

RDL Kalıcı Kaydıİncele - ArticleAçık Erişim2026The Validity and Reliability of the Turkish Version of the Nurses’ Spiritual Sensitivity Scale: A Methodological Study
Binay, Şengül Korkmaz; Karakurt, Papatya
Objective: This study aims to adapt the Nurses’ Spiritual Sensitivity Scale (NSSS) into Turkish and to conduct its reliability and validity study. Methods: This methodological study included 267 nurses. The scale was back translated in order to confirm the linguistic equivalence. A Nurse Information Form and the NSSS were administered to these nurses. The opinions of 14 faculty members in the field of nursing were solicited to test the content validity index (CVI). Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted to establish the validity index and construct validity. Internal consistency analyses were performed with Cronbach’s α coefficients and item analyses. Time invariance (in terms of test–retest reliability) was analyzed to test the reliability of this scale. Fifty-one nurses were subjected to the test‒retest across 4-week intervals to identify the time invariance of the scale. Results: The CVI values of the items ranged from 0.918 to 1. The CFA confirmed the original 2-factor structure of the scale. The Cronbach’s α coefficient was 0.894 for the subscale of nurses’ professional spiritual sensitivity and 0.887 for the subscale of nurses’ inner spiritual sensitivity. Conclusion: The Turkish version of the NSSS is a valid and reliable assessment instrument to assess the spiritual sensitivity of nurses.

Kasımoğlu, Necla; Aydın, Muhammet Ali; Tuncay, Birgül; Gürol, Ayşe; Adıyaman, Abdullah
Objectives: This study aimed to translate the Needs of Parents Caring for Children with Epilepsy Questionnaire (NPCEQ) into Turkish (NPCEQ-TR) and evaluate its psychometric properties, including validity and reliability, within a Turkish cultural context. Methods: A cross-sectional and methodological design was employed. Data were collected online from 310 parents of children with epilepsy in 2025. The adaptation process followed international guidelines and included translation, back-translation, content validation, and pilot testing. Construct validity was examined through confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha and McDonald’s omega coefficients. Results: The content validity indices were satisfactory (I-CVI = 0.80– 1.00; S-CVI = 0.91). The KMO value (0.952) and Bartlett’s test (χ² = 5173.501, p < .001) confirmed that the data were suitable for factor analysis. CFA supported the original five-factor structure, with fit indices indicating an excellent model fit (χ²/df = 1.27; CFI = 0.976; TLI = 0.974; RMSEA = 0.030). Cronbach’s alpha and McDonald’s omega coefficients ranged from 0.770 to 0.930 for the subscales, and were 0.958 and 0.950, respectively, for the total scale. Conclusion: The NPCEQ-TR demonstrated strong construct validity, high internal consistency, and cultural relevance. It is a reliable and practical instrument for assessing the multidimensional needs of parents caring for children with epilepsy, and it can be utilized effectively in family-centered nursing and psychosocial interventions in Turkey.

Arslanlı, Sevilay Ergün; Aygüler, Edip; Kasımoğlu, Necla; Çelik, İsa
Aim: This study aimed to investigate fathers' newborn care-related experiences, identify the factors affecting their participation in the care process and explore their support needs. Methods: This qualitative study was conducted using a phenomenological design. Data were collected through in-depth face-to-face interviews conducted based on a semi-structured interview guide. The data were analysed using Colaizzi's phenomenological data analysis method. Results: Fathers were willing to participate in newborn care and were particularly involved in practices such as feeding and basic hygiene care. Lack of experience, fear of harming the baby and lack of self-confidence regarding caregiving skills emerged as significant difficulties experienced by the fathers in newborn care. The fathers pointed out that their wives, healthcare professionals and family members were important sources of support, while demanding work schedules, limited paternity leave and traditional gender roles were among the leading barriers limiting their participation in caregiving. Conclusion: The fathers were willing to participate in newborn care, but their participation in the care process was limited owing to individual, social and structural barriers. It is believed that strengthening their caregiving skills and creating supportive environmental conditions will increase their participation in newborn care. Implications for Practice: Healthcare professionals, particularly pediatric and neonatal nurses, should develop father-focused training programmes and provide guidance on care practices to encourage fathers to participate in newborn care actively. Developing policies that support paternity leave and family-centred care practices can also increase fathers' involvement in early infant care.
