RDL Kalıcı Kaydıİncele - ArticleYalnız künye2018The Rotation Forest algorithm and object-based classification method for land use mapping through UAV images
Akar, Özlem
This study aims to test the performance of the Rotation Forest (RTF) algorithm in urban and rural areas that have similar characteristics using unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) images to produce the most up-to-date and accurate land use maps. The performance of the RTF algorithm was compared to other ensemble methods such as Random Forest (RF) and Gentle AdaBoost (GAB) for object-based classification. RGB bands and other variables (i.e. ratio, mean, standard deviation,.. etc.) were also used in classification. The accuracy assessments showed that the RTF method, with 92.52 and 91.29% accuracies, performed better than the RF (2 and 4%) and GAB (5 and 8%) methods in urban and rural areas, respectively. The significance of differences in classification methods was also analysed using the McNemar test. Consequently, this study shows the success of the RTF algorithm in the object-based classification of UAV images for land use mapping.
RDL Kalıcı Kaydıİncele - ArticleYalnız künye2018A GIS-based interval type-2 fuzzy set for public bread factory site selection
Deveci, Muhammet; Akyurt, Ibrahim Zeki; Yavuz, Selahattin
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to present a new public bread factory location selection for Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM). Design/methodology/approach: A two-stage methodology is proposed to determine the location for the public bread factory facility. This framework is based on both geographic information systems (GIS) and multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) techniques. The first stage of the methodology aims to decrease the number of possible alternative locations to simplify the selection activity by applying GIS; the second stage utilises interval type-2 fuzzy MCDM approach to exactly determine the public bread factory site location. Findings: In this study, the authors present weighted normalised-based interval type-2 hesitant fuzzy and interval type-2 hesitant fuzzy sets (IT2HFSs)-based compressed proportional assessment (COPRAS) methods to overcome facility location selection problem for a fourth public bread factory in Istanbul. Practical implications: The results show that the proposed approach is practical and can be employed by the bakery industry. Originality/value: In this study, the authors present a two-stage methodology for public bread factory site selection. In the first stage, the number of alternatives is reduced by the GIS. In the second stage, an interval type-2 fuzzy set is implemented for the evaluation of public bakery factory site alternatives. A new integrated approach based on COPRAS method and weighted normalised with IT2HFSs is proposed.

Nowadays, improving the energy efficiency of buildings without decreasing the comfort of its occupants is of great importance in the whole world. The most widespread passive energy control strategy is the utilization of insulation materials with low thermal transmittance. This chapter proposes an alternative control strategy that would help to create more stable temperatures inside a room. This is changing the thermal capacity of a common wall with the integration of phase change material (PCM). To evaluate the performance of the PCM, user-defined scripts are coded in commercial CFD solver ANSYS FLUENT to simulate one-dimensional heat transfer through a wall within a detached cabin in a city with Mediterranean climate for 1 day in the hot season. The placement and amount of PCM in the building element are changed and analyzed. The results show a decrease in the indoor wall temperature up to 6 °C, which is promising for further research.

To measure heavy metal pollution, 42 different soil samples were collected and analyzed from the center, cities, and villages of Erzincan. Average element concentrations in the soil samples in micrograms per gram were as follows: Cadmium (Cd, 6.1), Cobalt (Co, 52.2), Chromium (Cr, 739.6), Copper (Cu, 51.3), Nickel (Ni, 638.4), Lead (Pb, 14.2), and Zinc(Zn, 85.7), and these results were incompatible with natural background values. Heavy metal concentrations were at high levels, especially in agricultural regions and regions with mineral deposits. The results were compared to the allowable levels in soil dictated by pollution regulations in Turkey and some European countries. Krige (1962) method was used to evaluate the distribution of concentrations of heavy metals. Various methods such as Reverse Distance Weighted Interpolation Method (IDW), Local Polynomial, Radial-Based Function, and Kriging were used in preparing density maps. In the maps obtained, critical values for each heavy metal are defined. In addition, these critical values were compared with Krauskopf (1979) values. In this comparison, the values obtained in the samples showed ultramafic rocks in Erzincan region.

Worldwide, especially in societies with higher education levels, traditional settlements are important components of cultural heritage in terms of sustainability. However, the recent wave of urbanisation that has been experienced in Turkey has placed significant pressure on traditional structures. The District of Kemaliye, which has largely preserved its traditional texture for various reasons, is a small town in the Erzincan Province of Turkey. The aim of this study is to determine the quality of life of the traditional settlement pattern of Kemaliye to contribute to its ecological, spatial and socio-cultural sustainability. A public opinion survey was carried out with the aim of identifying the public's needs and demands and its socio-cultural characteristics. The survey also aimed to determine the quality of urban life in Kemaliye. Multidimensional statistical techniques were used to identify the most important environmental, socio-cultural, infrastructural and regional factors that affected the public's views of quality of urban life in Kemaliye. Based on these findings, suggestions were formulated for the efficient use of resources in urban redevelopment efforts and to provide a basis for the new settlement plans that are projected to be carried out for the city centre of Kemaliye and its vicinity.
