- ArticleAçık Erişim2026Adaptive Weighting Ensemble Approach for High-Fidelity PM10 Forecasting via Evolutionary TCN and Bidirectional GRU
Kilinc, Huseyin Cagan; Dalkilic, Huseyin Yildirim; Yurtsever, Adem; Ates, Sinan; Yeşilyurt, Sefa Nur
Rapid socioeconomic development has intensified air pollution, making accurate air quality forecasting essential for effective pollution management and public health protection. However, short-term PM10 prediction remains challenging because of complex temporal dependencies, nonlinear pollutant–meteorological interactions, and rapidly changing pollution episodes. To address these challenges, this study proposes the AWE-Bi-GRU-EA-TCN-LR hybrid framework, where Bi-GRU captures bidirectional temporal dependencies, EA-TCN extracts multi-scale temporal patterns through enhanced attention, and Linear Regression (LR) statistically calibrates residual relationships. The framework is evaluated using hourly air quality and meteorological observations from an industrialized urban area. As a consequence of the estimate, the RMSE value of 17.740 obtained with the comparison model, the persistence model, was decreased to 12.228 in the proposed model, while the R2 values were obtained as 0.786 and 0.899 in the same models, respectively. A number of different models were used in this research for the purpose of predicting PM10, and the Enhanced Temporal Convolutional Network (EA-TCN) model was found to have a root mean square error (RMSE) value of 12.804. Consequently, this proposed synergistic model has the capability to generate accurate results while maintaining robustness in air quality forecasting using complex datasets in regions with different environmental characteristics and meteorological variables.
RDL Kalıcı Kaydıİncele - ArticleYalnız künye2026Site amplification estimated from strong motion records at Türkiye strong-motion stations using spectral separation technique
Ozmen, O.T.; Yamanaka, H.; Arslan, H.I.; Beyhan, M.; Altiok, S.; Ozel, A.O.; Turkoglu, M.; Gokce, O.
This study presents a nationwide assessment of seismic site amplification across Türkiye, based on 7191 strong-motion records from 757 earthquakes recorded at 462 stations of the Türkiye National Strong Motion Network. Using a spectral separation technique, contributions of source, path, and local site conditions were separated within the 0.5–20 Hz frequency range. The results indicate spatially and frequency-dependent amplification patterns across the country. Low-frequency amplification within the 0.5–1.3 Hz band is primarily observed at sites situated in sedimentary surface settings in eastern and southwestern Türkiye, whereas amplification within the 8.0–20 Hz band appears more evident in parts of southern Türkiye, including Hatay. Site amplification factors were evaluated across four geological units and five site classes defined by the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP). Quaternary units and sites classified as Class E exhibit stronger low-frequency amplification, whereas Paleozoic units and Class C–D sites tend to show higher-frequency responses. A relationship between Vs30 (time-averaged shear-wave velocity in the upper 30 m) and amplification is observed, particularly within the 0.5–1.3 Hz frequency band. These findings contribute to understanding of local site effects and provide insights relevant to seismic hazard assessment, urban planning, and resilient structural design under local ground conditions in Türkiye.
RDL Kalıcı Kaydıİncele - ArticleYalnız künye2026Damage simulations of the historic masonry aqueduct at Sümela monastery under rockfall and post-disaster landscape management
Genç, Ali Fuat; Nasery, Mohammad Manzoor; Cosgun, Suleyman Istemihan; Yalçınyavuz, Azapay Ümmühan
This study presents a numerical damage simulation of a historical masonry aqueduct at the Sümela Monastery (Virgin Mary) under rockfall. This monastery site has a sharp topography and is exposed to significant rockfall risk. In recent years, local authorities have implemented safety applications, including controlled blasting, anchoring, and cleaning to identify the risky blocks and eliminate rockfall risks. Rockfall risk analyses were conducted considering the topographic features of the site to simulate damage caused by natural rockfalls and those induced by the safety measures employed at the site. Numerical impact analyses were conducted to investigate the resulting damage on the historical aqueduct after determining rockfall risks. In these analyses, four different rock volumes were dropped at the midpoint of each arch. The results of the impact analyses indicated that low-volume rocks (e.g., 0.06–0.09 m3) induced localized surface damage, whereas rocks with larger volumes (2.5–5.0 m3) caused more extensive global failure patterns. The results clearly demonstrate the destructive effects of rockfall on the structure. Finally, this study discusses post-disaster landscape planning for a site that receives thousands of visitors annually.
RDL Kalıcı Kaydıİncele - ArticleYalnız künye2026Ecological and environmental assessment of Erzincan Districts within the scope of the biodiversity-friendly city approach
Askan, Gökhan; Yilmaz, Hasan
This study was conducted between 2022 and 2024 to develop strategies for the inventory, conservation, and sustainable management of biological diversity in urban areas of Erzincan province, encompassing six districts and one town. It also seeks to promote the use of natural plant species to create climate-resilient urban ecosystems. Field surveys, drone imaging, and plant species identification were conducted across 70 open green spaces. The Shannon–Wiener diversity index and Simpson diversity index, together with the Biodiversity-Friendly City Criteria, were applied to the Erzincan case. A total of 105 plant taxa, including 36,799 individuals, were identified, with 56% being natural and 44% exotic. Kemaliye had the highest species diversity index and while Çayirli had the lowest. The plants consisted of 54% edible-leaf broadleaf trees, 19% conifers, and the remaining being edible shrubs, small trees, and vines. Biodiversity assessments revealed that Kemaliye had the highest diversity index, and Çayirli the lowest. Districts were analyzed using the “Bio-friendly Settlement” criteria, with all districts, including Çağlayan, Çayirli, Kemah, Kemaliye, Refahiye, Tercan, and Üzümlü, showing high biodiversity characteristics. The average Bio-friendly score for the districts was 90.7 points. The Shannon–Wiener diversity index indicated that Kemaliye exhibited the highest biodiversity with a high evenness value (E = 0.896), whereas Çayirli showed the lowest diversity; this pattern was consistently supported by the Simpson diversity index results. In conclusion, the study stresses the importance of implementing conservation measures to enhance ecological sustainability in Erzincan, which also holds significant potential for agricultural landscapes and tourism. The high Bio-friendly scores of these districts underscore the need for strategies supporting ecological balance and biodiversity preservation.
RDL Kalıcı Kaydıİncele - ArticleYalnız künye2026Automated identification of structural elements in RC buildings based on structural floor plan data
İnce, Ozan; Karaköse, Perihan; İnce, Elif Gökçe; Eren, Erkin; Çakil, Burak; Atar, Muhammed
Proper placement of load-bearing elements plays a critical role in earthquake-resistant building design. Design mistakes and deficiencies in the arrangement of columns, shear walls, and beams may reduce seismic performance, increase torsional effects, cause frame discontinuities, and lead to inefficient or uneconomical structural solutions. Therefore, early identification of such deficiencies directly from structural floor plans can provide important support during both preliminary design and rapid assessment stages. This study presents an automated methodology for detecting, classifying, and evaluating load-bearing elements in RC building floor plans by integrating image processing and deep learning techniques. The YOLO object detection algorithm was employed to identify structural components within floor plan images. A dataset comprising 500 RC building floor plans was developed, and structural elements were manually annotated and labeled for model training and validation. Unlike previous approaches that mainly focus on limited structural components, the proposed model detects columns, shear walls, and four different beam types according to their support conditions. In addition, detected bounding box coordinates are converted into real-world dimensions using grid distances obtained from drawings, allowing the cross-sectional dimensions of each element to be determined. The model achieved high detection performance, particularly for columns, shear walls, and main beams, with accuracy values exceeding 93%. The results show that the proposed approach can accurately obtain information from structural floor plans and provide a promising decision-support system.
RDL Kalıcı Kaydıİncele - ArticleYalnız künye2026Data-driven resilience modeling: Shock response of Turkish logistics corridorss
Sünbül, Şeyma; Tortum, Ahmet
Traditional transport planning often fails to manage changes in people's mobility during crises. This study uses data from Meta's "Data for Good" platform to analyse how well Türkiye's transportation network can deal with external shocks. The mobility of 81 provinces was modelled using K-Means clustering and validated through spatial analyses and a Logistics Dominance Index (LDI). Results identify four distinct functional zones. Large metropolises (Cluster 4) showed high vulnerability, while logistics corridors (Cluster 2) demonstrated operational robustness, showing +3.69% continuity during crisis periods. LDI results indicate that road capacity in these regions is predominantly influenced by commercial freight. Despite the presence of high functional resilience, significant spatial risks are identified due to geographical overlap with the North Anatolian Fault Line. The findings of the present study suggest that future planning should prioritise network redundancy and data-driven dynamic management over static capacity expansion.

Demirel, Soner; Socha, V.; Hanakova, L.
This study aims to manage air traffic flow in the terminal maneuvering area (TMA) of Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport by generating delay-based solutions. For this purpose, a mixed-integer mathematical modeling technique is used. The model is integrated into a graphical user interface that includes two modules: Generic Data and Real Data. In this way, planning air traffic controllers can gain foresight into the traffic flow within the TMA by using parameters derived from the traffic outside the TMA. Through the Generic Data module, preliminary runs with different traffic mixes allow researchers to observe the outcomes of various scenarios, while the Real Data module provides both planning support and delay-based recommendations for controllers. The interface includes a Gantt chart, a heatmap visualizing delays between waypoints, the frequency of radio usage by air traffic controllers for solutions, emission-related graphs and tables presenting statistics such as flight durations of aircraft within the TMA. By using the model and the interface, traffic flow can be managed optimally with the objective of minimizing delays. At the same time, the user-friendly interface offers visual references and can serve as an easy-To-use assistant for planning controllers.
RDL Kalıcı Kaydıİncele - Conference ObjectYalnız künye2026Hotspot Capacity-Driven Scheduling Strategies for Reducing Airborne Delays in TMAs
Demirel, Soner; Socha, V.; Hanakova, L.
This paper investigates the reduction of airborne delays in Terminal Maneuvering Areas (TMAs) through departure time adjustments based on hotspot levels at origin airports. While existing studies primarily focus on reducing airborne delays to support environmentally sustainable airport operations, this research proposes shifting such delays to the ground within the predefined capacity limits of critical areas (hotspots) at destination airports. Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (LTFJ), its associated TMA routes and Point Merge System (PMS) were selected as the case study. Four virtual origin airports were defined for analysis. The proposed model represents hotspot locations (gates, taxiways, and runway holding positions) as virtual nodes with predefined congestion levels (low, medium, and high). The problem is formulated as a mixed integer linear programming model and solved using the CPLEX solver. The model achieves computational efficiency within reasonable solution times. Under the implementability bound in Eq. (31), the model reduces average airborne delay from 1552 s to 931.2 s and it corresponds to a 40 percent reduction within the prescribed acceptability band. Overall, the findings demonstrate that the proposed methods align with existing literature by enhancing delay management through realistic modeling at hotspot points.

RDL Kalıcı Kaydıİncele - ArticleAçık Erişim2025Evaluation of the effect of frame discontinuity on earthquake performance in reinforced concrete buildings using nonlinear analysis
Atar, Muhammed; Ince, Ozan; Çakıl, Burak; İnce, Elif Gökçe
Earthquakes are natural events that challenge the limits of engineering designs through the forces they exert on structures. The devastating outcomes of the 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes have underscored the urgent need to reassess the seismic safety of the building stock and current design practices. Frame continuity in reinforced concrete buildings is particularly vital for structural strength and earthquake resilience. This study examines the effects of frame discontinuity on the performance of reinforced concrete buildings using nonlinear analysis methods. As part of the research, three regular reinforced concrete buildings were initially designed and later re-modeled to incorporate frame discontinuities. Both building types were analyzed using the nonlinear pushover analysis method, and the resulting capacity curves and damage states were compared to evaluate the impact of frame discontinuity. The analysis results reveal the negative impact of frame continuity on the building performance.

RDL Kalıcı Kaydıİncele - ArticleAçık Erişim2025Elektrikli Araçların Hava Kalitesi Üzerine Etkisi: PM₁₀, NO₂, SO₂ ve CO Parametreleri Üzerinden Bir Değerlendirme
RDL Kalıcı Kaydıİncele - ArticleAçık Erişim2025An Application on Electric Vehicle Charging Station Site Selection With Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Methods
Sünbül, Seyma; Tortum, Ahmet
As the population grows and vehicles are increasingly owned, emissions from fossil fuels are worsening environmental problems. In this context, electric vehicles (EVs) present a significant alternative for the development of sustainable transportation systems. However, for electric vehicles (EVs) to become a prevalent form of transportation, the establishment of an effective and efficient charging infrastructure is imperative. The primary objective of this study is to ascertain the most suitable location for the installation of an electric vehicle (EV) charging station within the Erzincan Binali Y & imath;ld & imath;r & imath;m University Yaln & imath;zbag Campus. During site selection, the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and TOPSIS methods were used to evaluate the criteria. The study was conducted in two stages. In the first, seven active-use transformers on campus were weighed using the AHP method, then the most suitable one was selected using the TOPSIS method. In the second, seven parking areas were analysed using the same criteria. The parking lot selection used the AHP and TOPSIS methods, considering faculty and campus entrance distance, lot capacity and transformer preference score. The findings of the study demonstrate the efficacy of the AHP and TOPSIS methods in the context of multi-criteria and multi-stage decision-making processes. The integration of these methods has been demonstrated to facilitate the optimisation of EV charging station location selection, both in technical and practical terms.

Kemahli Garipoglu, Funda; Sezer Sanli, Aysem; Yildiz Karakoc, Duygu
Due to interruptions in the political regime, instability and occupations, Afghanistan has long been a country of migration to many countries. T & uuml;rkiye, in its role as a transit nation, has emerged as a significant destination for Afghan migrants. Women migrants face heightened challenges during the migratory process and are subject to various forms of oppression in the countries they migrate to. Intersectionality, a foundational concept in feminist theory, provides a crucial framework for analysing the interplay between migration and gender. In this study, which aims to analyse the urban life experiences of female migrants on the basis of gender and migration, the urban life experiences of Afghan women living in Erzincan were examined through qualitative research and in-depth interviews. The findings reveal that migration and adaptation processes of migrant women are made more difficult by intersecting dynamics such as gender, class belonging and migrant identity.

Bayata, Halim Ferit; Mazlum, Yunus Emre; Bas, Fatih Irfan; Çolak, Muhammed Ali
The twin earthquakes in Kahramanmara & scedil; in 2023 revealed the necessity of disaster coordination and pre-disaster situation analysis. To cope with such disasters and prevent possible losses, a comprehensive preparation process is required, such as evaluating a city's building stock in terms of earthquake risks and assessing the adequacy of the transportation network, emergency gathering points, and temporary shelter areas. This study selected Erzincan province, which has been destroyed by many major earthquakes, as the study area. It aimed to create risk maps by determining earthquake-risk buildings using rapid visual screening methods based on Geographic Information Systems (GIS), conducting building performance evaluations, and choosing safe transportation routes in case of a possible disaster. A total of 3,199 reinforced concrete and masonry buildings with two or more stories in the city center of Erzincan, constructed before 2000, were identified. In a possible earthquake, transportation infrastructure was analyzed, and maps of traffic density, emergency gathering, and temporary shelter areas were created. The analyses showed that the capacity of emergency gathering, and temporary shelter areas needed to be increased. In the scenarios of increased traffic density, it has been determined that the existing roads in all ten neighborhoods are unsuitable for disaster-emergency situations.

Tai, Muhammed; Günei, Erkan; Ekmekçi, Zeynep
The primary aim of this study was to examine the effect of perceived authenticity (PA) on heritage responsibility (HR) within the context of the local community in Kemaliye (Erzincan), and to identify the mediating role of local identity (LI) and the moderating role of perceived anxiety from tourism (PAT) in this relationship. The research seeks to evaluate the direct, indirect, and interactional relationships among these variables within a comprehensive model framework. Kemaliye's inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List, its Cittaslow designation, along with its natural and historical assets and increasing tourism pressure, make it a significant site for examining local residents' perceptions of tourism. The study population consists of the residents of Kemaliye. Data were collected from 188 respondents through a convenience sampling method using a survey technique. Statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS and AMOS software, and PROCESS Macro model 5 was employed to test the proposed model. The findings reveal that LI mediates the effect of PA on HR, while PAT moderates this relationship, amplifying its strength. The study suggests that enhancing PA can encourage HR and tourism-supportive behaviors among the local population. Implications for destination managers are discussed along with practical recommendations. Although the study focuses on Kemaliye, the findings provide insights that can inform heritage management and community engagement strategies in other cultural heritage destinations facing similar tourism pressures.

Askan, G.; Yilmaz, H.
This study emphasizes outcomes such as the identification of biodiversity in urban areas within Türkiye, the development of strategies to ensure its continuity, the enhancement of resilience against climate change by utilizing natural species in terms of plant material, the effective utilization of resource values, and the creation of awareness at local, national, and international scales. Totally, 10 different educational areas were surveyed, counting 13,323 plants comprising 80 different species, of which 35 are part of the natural flora. In particular, we promote biodiversity in cities by encouraging the planting of more native trees and the use of a greater variety of species that can attract wildlife. Among the identified plants, there are 1,043 edible tree species, 1,871 broadleaf species, 2,393 coniferous species, 828 other ornamental plants, shrubs, and bush types totaling 7,126, and 62 climbing plant species. In these areas, plant species diagnostics, naturalness status, and analyses of edible trees and fruit-bearing plants were conducted. Analyses were also performed according to the Shannon-Wiener diversity index, Simpson diversity index, and Biyodost Educational Campus Index for each area. We recommend considering a design concept that caters not only to humans but also appeals to all living beings for completed and planned educational areas. New concepts such as Bıo-Frıendly Educatıonal Area require collaboration across different disciplines in this field. Academic circles should begin to take the lead in developing and implementing this concept. The collaborative work of these disciplines will contribute to the development of innovative approaches in the design, management, and sustainability of bio-friendly areas.
RDL Kalıcı Kaydıİncele - ArticleAçık Erişim2025Investigating the effects of glass fiber in enhancing concrete pavement performance
Baş, Fatih İrfan
Flexible pavements are considered more sustainable than concrete pavements primarily due to the higher long-term maintenance and rehabilitation costs associated with concrete pavements. Concrete pavements possess a higher modulus of elasticity, which allows them to distribute vehicle loads over a larger area, thereby enhancing the strength of the pavement. However, despite this advantage, their flexural strength is relatively low. As a result, there has been a growing focus on research to improve the flexural strength of concrete pavements to increase their overall performance and sustainability. This study aimed to reveal the effects of enhanced mechanical properties of concrete reinforced with glass fiber on concrete pavements, specifically under heavy vehicle loading as in real-world conditions. The impact of glass fiber on the thickness of both the concrete and base layers, as well as the quality of the base layer material and transverse joint spacing, was assessed. For this purpose, 3D finite element models were developed using ANSYS software, considering concrete thicknesses of 100, 150, and 200 mm, glass fiber ratios of 0%, 0.5%, and 1%, base layer elastic moduli of 100, 200, and 300 MPa, and transverse joint spacings of 300, 450, and 600 mm. It was determined that the concrete thickness and the base layer modulus of elasticity were the most influential factors in minimizing flexural stress, total deformation, and equivalent total strain. The glass fiber addition had a more notable impact on maximum principal stress, especially at the 1% ratio, but had a minimal effect on total deformation and strain. Transverse joint spacing had the least effect, although shorter spacings are still recommended to reduce the risk of transverse cracking in stiffer base layers.
