Durkheım's moral education and ıdeal cıtızen type

    Aksakal, Ibrahim

In this study, it was aimed to reveal the individual and society model designed by Emile Durkheim,\rone of the pioneers of sociology, by examining her views on moral and values education. The findings\robtained were compared with the understanding of moral and values education applied in the Turkish\reducation system and Durkheim's footprints were sought. The document analysis, which is one of the\rqualitative research methods, was used in the research and the findings were interpreted with content\ranalysis. It has been determined that Durkheim's understanding of moral education is at the core of the\rnation-state ideology and that he puts the education system in the center in this sense. Thinking that all\rindividuals who make up the society should share common norms and values, Durkheim has designed a\rnext generation devoted to its homeland and the society to which it belongs. He thinks that in order to raise\rthis generation, children should be given moral education that serves national interests from an early age.\rThere is an important similarity between the ideal citizen model designed by Durkheim and the citizen\rmodel that the Turkish education system is trying to train. Durkheim attributed important responsibilities\rto the teacher in the delivery of moral education, thinking that the teacher is the representative of the state,\rdrawing a dominant teacher profile. Students, on the other hand, idealized themselves as passive, obedient\rand altruistic individuals who surrendered themselves to authority. The main argument of the research is\rDurkheim's work on Moral Education. In addition, by examining his various articles and studies, the\ridealized citizen model has been revealed.

The impact of dynamic geometry software on creating constructivist learning environment

    Üstün, Özge Nurlu

This chapter aims to review the ways that digital technologies may impact learning geometry. To be more focused, Dynamic Geometry Software (DGS) is investigated as an assistant digital in the classroom for discussing the impact of learning geometry. Particularly, it is discussed whether DGS may have an effect on some knowledge accession skills suggested by constructivists approach. The chapter indicates that DGS has positive impacts on providing a constructivist classroom learning environment. Even though there is much research indicating the positive impacts of DGS in providing an environment shaped by the constructivist approach, some research provides different results. The reasons the results contradict each other could be explained by the prior knowledge, skills, and needs of students; a lack of time for whole class discussions; and insufficiency in the design of DGS applets and worksheets. Therefore, it should be noted that using DGS alone cannot create a learning environment shaped by constructivism.

Evaluation of effectiveness of the hidden curriculum in nursing students: East Turkey

    Yanmis, Safiye; Ozcan, Sadiye

This study was conducted to evaluate the hidden curriculum in nursing education. This cross-sectional, descriptive study was carried out among 235 nursing students. The "Student Information Form"and "Hidden Curriculum Assessment Scale in Nursing Education"were used to collect data from the participants. The mean scores that the students obtained from the hidden curriculum assessment scale, were 138.54±23.27. The variables, such as the faculty the students attended, whether they have chosen the profession willingly (p=0.000), the sufficiency of the professional education of the school (p=0.000), and whether they are happy with the school (p=0.000), affected their perceptions of the hidden curriculum. The students' perceptions of the hidden curriculum of the institution were at a moderate level. In our study, those who considered the education at the school sufficient, those who chose the nursing profession willingly, and those who were happy with the school, obtained higher scores on the hidden curriculum assessment scale. In order to increase the quality of their graduates, higher education institutions that provide nursing education should aim to create and develop the hidden curriculum of the institution. Thus, the informal hidden curriculum, together with students' needs and other creative aspects, can be recognised and integrated into the formal curriculum. In addition, interviews can be done with students to identify the factors that are making them unhappy, so that these aspects can be interrogated, in detail, to bring about changes to create a positive school climate.

    Classification of Instructional Videos

Köse, Erman; Taşlıbeyaz, Elif; Karaman, Selçuk

Even though instructional videos are often used in many areas covering a wide range of studies and applications, the lack of a common approach for the definition and classification of instructional videos results in the use of several different models for these purposes. In order to develop such a common approach, there remains the need to build a structure, through which these videos may be defined and classified. The purpose of this study is to design a scheme for the definition and classification of instructional videos based on the namings and qualifications used in the literature and to examine the usability of this scheme. For this purpose, in the first part of this study; the naming and qualifications used in the literature were determined and gathered in a common framework using the content analysis method. Articles published in the Web of Science between 2008 and 2018 with keywords or titles that contained the phrase "instructional video" were accessed. After that, relevant articles were identified using the document analysis method. The results of the analysis indicated that most articles pertained to videos with features structured around the dimensions of interaction, screen design, sequence, included components (picture, voice, text, etc.), subject/content and connection. In the second stage, verification studies were performed to examine the usability of this framework, a classification scheme was developed based on the aforementioned main dimensions and tested for verification. The created scheme allows for classifying video types based on eight main dimensions of interaction, connection, screen design, sequence, component, image format, instant and subject/content, which were identified in the light of the findings obtained from the study. It is believed that this scheme will make it easier for researchers to identify which videos to use. Despite the potential that disruptive technologies offer for facilitating smart pedagogy, the confusion relating to different definitions and classifications in pedagogical understandings is seen as an obstacle for smart teaching systems. The classification model proposed in this study will provide guidance to smart pedagogy studies in terms of data definition and orientation.

Self-Efficacy, Perceived Social Support and Teacher Feedback as Predictors of Attitude Towards Physical Education

    Kılıç, Sonnur Küçük

In a developing and changing world, more passive lifestyle is adopted and the activity needs of young people are ignored. In this context, it is considered that it is important that young people turn to physical activity in order to meet their activity needs and get rid of the negative effects of passive life. On the other hand, it has been determined that the student's interest towards physical education courses, which are supposed to offer equal opportunities to young people in physical activity participation, has decreased in time. Therefore, it is considered important to determine the factors that affect the attitude towards physical education. In this way, it is believed that the quality of education will increase and a healthier young society will be formed. The aim of this study is to determine whether self-efficacy, perceived social support and teacher feedback perceptions of middle school students are a significant predictor of physical education attitude. The study group consisted of 520 (267 female, 253 male) students that studying at 6th, 7th and 8th grades of three different middle schools in Erzincan. ‘The Physical Education Predisposition Scale’, ‘Perceived Social Support Scale’ and ‘Perceived Teacher Feedback Scale’ were used to collect data. ANOVA, simple and multiple linear regression analyzes were used in the data analysis. The results of the research show that self-efficacy towards physical education, perceived peer support, perceived positive nonverbal teacher feedback and performance information feedback are positive predictors of attitude toward physical education and negative nonverbal teacher feedback is negative predictor of attitude toward physical education. Finally, the most important variable that predict the attitude towards physical education was determined as a teacher feedback, perception of self-efficacy and social support towards physical education followed.
