Elementary and secondary education schools and high schools in Turkey are within the 12-year gradual (4+4+4) compulsory education process. Providing students’ benefiting from elementary and secondary education processes as the grades of compulsory education in accordance with fundamental rights and freedoms is a constitutional necessity. During the compulsory education process, the classes which cannot benefit from the “right of education” as objected include the children of poor and disadvantageous families. The purpose of the research was to determine the socio-economic properties of the disadvantageous families whose children were studying in compulsory education process. In the research, it was also aimed to specify the sociological variables affecting the compulsory education process of disadvantageous families. The research was carried out in 3 neighborhoods and 1 town affiliated to Erzincan provincial district in 2017. In the research, the schools experiencing serious problems for schooling of the students were regarded while determining the disadvantageous neighborhoods and town. During the research process, “The Questionnaire for Schooling of Disadvantageous Families’ Children” was used. The research was carried out using face-to-face interview method with families of 104 students in family environments. In the research, views of the directors of 4 elementary education and 3 secondary education schools in disadvantageous residential areas were also asked. According to the research results, 56% of the mothers in disadvantageous sociological classes were not even elementary education graduates. Moreover, 60% of the fathers of disadvantageous students were elementary education graduates. Majority of the disadvantageous families were deprived of social security. According to the research results, it was revealed that education, compulsory education especially with the highest level of social benefits, in disadvantageous social classes was not perceived as a basic need. Disadvantageous families were understood to be deprived of meeting their most basic needs. In accordance with the research results, it was suggested to urgently start adult training activities based upon employment of parents in disadvantageous surroundings.

Many fields of science, the economy being first, aim to ensure that the individuals and the society lead a happy and satisfactory life. Many studies attempted to measure the life satisfaction by the means of demographical, genetic, psychological and economic variables; however, the social capital has been largely overlooked in this manner. This study discusses the relationship between the social capital and the life satisfaction. In classification problem, the most important factor is training dataset which is effect accuracy rate of classification. However, we encounter with imbalanced data set in real-world applications. In this dataset, the number of images in some classes is rather less than the number of images in other classes. So estimation of classification is tent to majority class and minority classes will be ignored. In this study, an ensemble based method is proposed for increasing accuracy rate of minority class. The results obtained are compared with traditional classifiers (support vector machine (SVM) and k nearest neighbor classifier (KNN)). Bagging based ensemble classifier takes out the issue of inclination toward classifying minority class. As a result, the accuracy of our method result is higher and more efficiency than the other two traditional classifiers.

Today websites are the tools most commonly used to access information. People with disabilities face difficulties accessing or using information, and the importance of website usability in their lives needs to be recognized. Visually impaired students need to be able to use university websites that inform them about the opportunities and events taking place on campus. This study aims to evaluate the usability of a university website by visually impaired students. In this research, six visually impaired students were interviewed. The assistive technologies they use, as well as the various web pages they wished to use unaided were identified. Following data collection, usability tests were conducted and satisfaction surveys were completed. The usability test was done with five visually impaired students. They were asked to think aloud while performing 11 tasks involving their university’s web pages, including the main page and the pages of student affairs, library and departments and then to accomplish these tasks. In this test, five tasks were not successfully completed by all students. According to the test results, finding final exam dates on the academic calendar posed major difficulties, and accessing the course schedule web page was the task that required the most time. The test results indicated the need for a search engine on each page, a text version for all pages, rearrangement of the web link sequences with tabs and more information about visuals. Suggestions related to the visually impaired students’ needs were offered.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the situations related to possibility and equality of opportunity in higher education in terms of chaos theory. During the research process, the aim was to determine the extent to which socio-economic chaos arising from student characteristics affected the possibility and equality of opportunity in higher education. In democratic countries, where it is considered that almost all professions with a high social status cannot be acquired without having a higher education qualification, higher education as a fundamental human right should be disseminated to different classes of the society. In this research, functions of a democratic educational administration upon the possibility and equality of opportunity in higher education in Turkey were discussed within the scope of sociologic variables. The population of “The Research for Equality of Opportunity and Possibility in Higher Education within the Concept of Democratic and Sociologic Features” included 29,477 students studying at Erzincan and Mersin Universities in 2012–2013 academic year; and the study sample included 776 students chosen with random cluster sampling model according to the faculties of both universities. Students with illiterate mothers were found to have benefited from the secondary education at a lower level than the other student groups. The student groups with high school and university graduate mothers were found to have benefited from the secondary education opportunities at a higher level.
